Help or advice on my hypo state

I had written a previous post last year when I shared how my high dose iodine experiment destroyed my health. The problem is I am still stuck trying to undo the damage from the high dose iodine and still feeling very hypothyroid. I recently did a blood test and my morning blood cortisol is very high at 214.0 ng/ml. This maybe why even though I have increased my T3 intake to 75mcg, I still have hypo symptoms. My TSH is extremely low at 0.003 uIU/ml which doesn't surprise me as I have been onT3 for nearly 10 years. My blood test T3 is at 1.04nmol/l and my FT3 is 2.52pmol/l and my FT4 is 0.49ng/dl. My VitB12 is still very high at 1231.9pg/ml and my folic acid is high too at 34.9ng/ml. This maybe due to the fact that I have been taking my Vit B complex regularly for the last 2 years and had only stopped taking the Vit B complex 2 weeks ago for the blood test. I am going to stop Vit B supplements now because it seems my body has too much of it. All the other test results seem ok. My TG receptor antibodies are 17.7U/ml and my TPO receptor antibodies are 11.9U/ml. I have adequate 25 hydroxy vitamin D3 at 31.4ng/ml.My iron level seems normal at 132ug/dl and my Ferritin seems normal at 144ng/ml.

I feel miserably cold all the time, and can't lose the weight i gained during the time i did the high dose iodine experiment last year. I was in good health on 50mcg T3 for the last 10 years just before the disastrous Iodine experimemt!! Any ideas on what I can do?

hello,

Sorry to hear about your experiment and long lasting symptoms.

Without knowing your ranges it’s tricky to comment on these as it would be a guess as to whether you are above below or mid range.

Do you have an endo? If so, perhaps ask them to investigate cortisol and adrenals.

have you eliminated all sources of iodine except for in your thyroid replacement?

Iodised salt? Seaweeds? Iodised plant milks?

Are you eating miso/tofu/soy?

Any other supplements that can make you feel awful eg Ashwaganda? Or lemon balm/melissa? (Often in herbal teas).

Just some ideas

My cortisol levels are high and way way above even the high in the range. That is why I am wondering if my high cortisol is causing thyroid resistance as my T3 does not seem ro be working.

I'm assuming you taking Liothyronine is a thyroidal hormone T3 which is normally produced by the thyroid gland in a ratio 4:1 when compared with T4: T3. Liothyronine is the active form of thyroxine which is composed in a basic chemical structure by a tyrosine with bound iodine. If you are taking iodine + FT3 = to much iodine which would raise cortisol levels. High levels of thyroid hormones can increase cortisol levels, while low levels can decrease them. It appears you assumption is correct .. high cortisol levels, particularly in conditions like Cushing's syndrome, can impair thyroid function and potentially lead to thyroid resistance..

Sorry to hear about your deteriorating symtoms. Can you tell me how much iodine you were taking? And for how long? And why did you start taking it? I take iodine myself and it has helped massively but I stopped my levo in dec last year as I felt too bad, it made me worse a lot worse.
