Hi, so I caught covid in Nov 2021 and since then my health and thyroid has been a wild ride! I had mild thyroiditis in 2022 for 5months
And then it came back in 2023 and it still hasn't quite ended yet, thyroid fluctuates often - never hyper enough for meds but my symptoms are extreme.
Had a blood test - and it is showing that finally my estrogen and testosterone is back in range (they had been non existent for the last 2 years). Other things have improved also. BUT my prolactin and my LH - i am also anemic which was likely due to the low testosterone so working on building that now and vitamin D.
But does anyone know why LH and prolactin would be low? Thank you.

For thyroid to work well you need GOOD iron, ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D
Have you had B12 and folate levels tested
How low was vitamin D
How much vitamin D are you taking
How low was ferritin
Also need BOTH TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested
Suggest you get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing 2-3 months after starting on improving low vitamin levels
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
In days before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70
Active b12 is 147 (well within range I do supplement as always been low - serum is usually around 220), folate 9.3 I take this also as always low, ferritin 4 (always has been) and vitamin D is 23 (so extremely low). I haven't started taking vitamin D yet as on the last check it was 83. So it's dropped alot. But I'll be taking 2000iu with magnesium daily.
My iron, mcv, mch, mchc, uibc is all very low. So I am taking iron for that 45mg 3 x a day.
Blood test was taken at 10am - no meds, no food or drink.
They won't give infusions, I've suffered on and off with iron issues all my life, they also said I have a possible thalassemia trait? Altho one doc said no, one said yes?
I wouldn't say heavy periods. So last year I had testing done, and just before my iron ect was perfect, then I went into another thyroid flare - my estrogen, testosterone ect dropped and with that my iron ect did too. But now I'm curious about the Lh and prolactin. I know I'm in another hyper flare so maybe that's possibly having an effect.
I should also mention my mum and sister have hashis and graves and my older sister has goitre. So thyroid issues seem to be prevelant.
There may be a number of causes of low levels of prolactin, including the following.
Sheehan’s syndrome
A condition that causes an inability to breastfeed.
Smoking
There is evidence that the reduction of breast milk in women who smoke cigarettes may be linked to an effect of nicotine on the production of prolactin.
Retained placental fragments
The placenta contains hormones that are known to decrease prolactin levels.
I've been pregnant 4 times, the last time was 2018 (with placenta issues that I nearly died from), I had prolactin tested a few times in 2021 and it came back high.
Last LH and prolactin checks have been normal, so it's very strange. Unless it's maybe to do with my estrogen and testosterone coming back on board? As my testosterone was 0.43 and estrogen had been menopause level when I was extremely hyper.
I am losing weight again tho? My weight plummeted when I went hyper I was losing 3-4lb a week, last year my weight would fluctuate just a couple of lbs, but then decemeber I started to drop a little here or there then last week I weighed and had dropped 3lb. That's hyper? Or can you lose weight with hypothyroidism?
Is there anything I can do with the hyper flare? I've been housebound 2 years now with this nearly 3 but the first year was manageable. They are trying to get my mum to have RAI - but they won't even help me, it's so strange. I've looked at L- carnite but worried to make things worse.
