High prolactin and SHBG related to thyroid?

Hello,

Ever since my thyroid went wonky my SHBG and Prolactin have been sky high. I tested again recently and they are both still sky high and my last test was March.

Did anyone else experience this?

I’d have thought after nearly 9 months on levo these would have come down a bit but they’re still the same as they were back then? SHBG off the scale at over 200 and prolactin 1500 (top of normal range is 496) prolactin is actually higher than before!

This has never been an issue for me before and I am worried about it so I just wondered if anyone had similar experiences please?

thank you.

From what I understand, being hypo does indeed raise prolactin, usually a lot. Because the pituitary is dysfunctional and having to shout louder about everything. I've been on levo and T3 for several months, and a test last week showed quite high prolactin - doc didn't raise an eyebrow about it. What do your estrogen/progesterone/testosterone look like? I've just found extremely low testosterone, and apparently really high SHGB is common with low testosterone and means it's mostly bound and therefore not available/free for the body to use.

Ah okay, I suppose I’m just worried it’s contributing to me feeling so crap.

My eostrogen and progesterone and testosterone are all suppress because I take medication for my PCOS but I have been taking this for years and years and never had issues with prolactin and SHBG until now… :(

Just feel like everything is all out of kilter. I wanted to have a child at some point but starting to feel like that’s not going to happen for me now…

Oh that makes sense then if you have PCOS. Having suppressed sex hormones as well as being hypo would probably make you feel a bit rubbish. It looks like you're looking into an endo referral or private doc? If you say it's a fertility concern, I think they tend to pay more attention. From your last posts, it looks like you're not converting well, so I'd put money that being at least partly responsible for feeling crap. It might be that you need T3 as well as maybe a different approach for the PCOS?

Thank you for replying, yes I’m due to speak to an endo tomorrow so I’m praying they will be helpful and sympathetic.

I’m wondering if PCOS itself can inhibit t3 production? The pill I take for PCOS has always worked wonders for me so I would be surprised if this needed changing. (It’s also expensive on NHS and they’ve made me try different ones before but they made me feel crap)

I know thyroid and PCOS are often linked so it would be good to discuss with an endo. I am wondering if I need just a bit of t3 as my conversion isn’t amazing but it isn’t absolutely awful either. It’s all such a tricky balance!

That's great that you've got an appointment lined up - hopefully they listen! Sounds like you're nice and steady with the PCOS, which is good. You may well just need some T3 - any hormonal imbalance is going to impact conversion. Do you know what your cortisol is like?

Yeah PCOS has never really been much more than an annoyance. My thyroid issues though have been hell and I was only ever classed as subclinical!

Thank you for listening :)
