1) their dose Levo is fine tuned to maintain Ft4 and Ft3 at least 50-60% through range
2) be aware that different brands levothyroxine are not necessarily interchangeable
3) optimum vitamin levels maintained
4) gluten free and/or dairy free diet may be beneficial or essential…..always worth trialing
Starting on Levo is the gentlest option. Increasing SLOWLY upwards, usually in 25mcg steps until on approximately full replacement dose of around 1.6mcg per kilo of your weight per day
Adults usually start with a dose between 50 micrograms and 100 micrograms taken once a day. This may be increased gradually over a few weeks to between 100 micrograms and 200 micrograms taken once a day.
Some people need a bit less than guidelines, some a bit more
TSH should be under 2 as an absolute maximum when on levothyroxine
If symptoms of hypothyroidism persist despite normalisation of TSH, the dose of levothyroxine can be titrated further to place the TSH in the lower part of the reference range or even slightly below (i.e., TSH: 0.1–2.0 mU/L), but avoiding TSH < 0.1 mU/L. Use of alternate day dosing of different levothyroxine strengths may be needed to achieve this (e.g., 100 mcg for 4 days; 125 mcg for 3 days weekly).
I worry with the connection to cancer. And we had had alot in our family. I was recently prescribed Armour thyroid and have got them but saw on the label they also contain levothyroxine. I only decided to take this as specilist said they don't buy now revieved them it states it on the label 😭
Thanks so much for all the advice.
Yes I cut everything out and found soya was a definite trigger. I also cut out dairy gluten sugar for 2 months but when I introduced the only thing that I struggled with was bread so I've just stopped eating that.
Someone did say that it's best to Try no gluten for 6 months. And that 2 months wasn't long enough.
The (very small possible) link to increase in risk of cancer is to having higher Ft4 levels…..not wether you get your replacement thyroid hormone from levothyroxine or NDT
NDT is T4 plus T3 so the label says “levothyroxine” because of containing T4
Anxiety is common hypothyroid symptom.
If you noticeably react to bread it’s worth cutting gluten out completely for 6-12 months. Then review
