Hi ( not on thyroid meds, though been advised on here to look into thyroid issues)

Wonder if anyone else has experienced such a speedy rise in ferritin please, I never have in past!

End March-48

June-37 (After loading dose b12-normal to lower after that)

Took 1 ferrous fumerate daily, sometimes EOD due to feeling bit sick with it.

Ceased supplements 1wk prior to nxt test & not taken any since.

End July-85 (pinprick thyroid test)

1wk later-110! (Pinprick iron panel-only ferritin worked)

Have another attempt at pinprick, so will see if it continues to rise nxt wk.

I’m on 2mnthly b12 jabs, used to be monthly, but working on that! MCH was still overange 80;days after loading dose.

Other results if they throw any light with ferritin, if not ignore from here :)

CRP checked twice, normal very low.

Vit d 60.1- taking supplements

Active b12 >150

Folate7,5 (range 3-19ish-sorry!)

Tsh 2.44

Ft3 4.5 (3.1-6.8)

Ft4 14.9 (12-22) a kind one on here has previously advised these are too low in range and worked out percentages.

Little history in case helps-I’ve dairy intolerance, gluten free, latex allergy, 25 yrs M.e diagnosis, tho thinking cld been b12/very low ferritin bk then, constant sinus issues, no smell/taste/ this yr very poorly partic with neuro sympt, exhaustion, nausea, thirst, weak, waking at 4, vision probs, body seems to overreact with emotions, fast heartbeat, etc. tho some symptoms grad improving after loading dose, but nowhere near being me yet! Heavy periods thus surprised at ferritin rising, aged 50,

Many thanks in advance…

Great that you are working on your Vit D level, ideally add a decent B complex which will bring your folate up and balance with the B12 jabs

Ferritin is a bit unreliable but presumably you had a full iron panel before supplementing

Heavy periods likely down to peri menopause have you thought about HRT?

Thanks TiggerMe, because ferritin was down to 37 I started supplements, one a day or every other. Thought I'd try an iron panel recently with it being 7wks ish on from result of 37. With having 1wkwithout supplementing iron prior to test, I didn't imagine ferritin to shoot up that much in 6 wks or so, & then another 25 a wk later? A bit concerned if it's going to continue to raise like that with no supplements?Thank you for your help. They've always been worse if ferritin lower, I put that in as am surprised ferritin rose like that with them. But yre no doubt right, I'm 50, so something going on i expct! They're back to one a month instead of 2, so that's a step in rightbdirection. Finding a lot of breathlessness around that time, but it's a bit better at other times now.

If your iron serum levels are good then supplementing would probably raise your ferritin levels quite quickly as it is the bodies way of storing it... always best to do a full iron panel first

Yes yre right, I just got fed up attempting them last yr, 3 places and no results. When it went down from 48 to 37 & warned b12 cld lower further. Thought I'd supplement few wks first to save a bit of money and give it a chance to level out. See.s I've turned into a ferritin super storer now, lol!

Just going through old notes TiggerMe, and found ferritin rose like that after the 1st loading dose! Went from 24 to 84 in 3 months, then couple months later back to 26! That's strange, maybe it's something that temporarily happens whilst supping up the b12? Helpful find thpugh. and reminder to keep regular check of it for me, as at 110 I'd prob assume it'd take a long while to lower. Thank goodness for paperwork as clearly my memory is not up to it:)
