recent blood test results

Hi Everyone

I recently had a private blood test done through here and the following has been observed by a friend:-

My TPO Anti-bodies suggest Hashimotos. My TSH is high - in a healthy person the result is usually around 2. FT4 and FT3 could be higher. VitD better around 100 +

Can anyone help.

Thanks Marz, i couldn't work out how to transfer the actual (full results) onto here. Computer stuff makes me very stressed I'm sorry to say.

welcome to the forum

Have you also had folate, B12 and ferritin levels tested

With high thyroid antibodies, you are likely to have low vitamin levels

Also GP should also do coeliac blood test

Thank you slowdragon, I haven't had any of the above tests done so i will get onto that. Would my GP be prepared to test for all of that though or would i be more likely to get better results by going private I'm wondering. Interesting about Coeliac as i do have a lot of digestive problems. Also, interesting about the vitamins. It's all part of the picture isn't it i'm begiining to realise.

Your Ferritin was76 - Range 30-264

Folate 19.1

B12 Active 87.6

So all good 🌻

The more knowledgeable members will tell you to have TSH blood tests taken pre 9am as this yields a higher TSH results.

My own experience shows a correlation between lower vitamin D and lower TSH results, thus affecting the way GPs choose to treat you.

Good luck.

Thank you 66olives, i did the blood test early in the morning but not exactly pre-9 am as a nurse came out to me. I am deficient in vitamin D and that was picked up at the surgery so maybe that will have a bearing on things, as you say.

Low vitamin levels tend to lower TSH

One of the reasons it’s important to test at least annually folate, B12 and ferritin as well as vitamin D

Thanks SlowDragon, I am going to do something about this as i feel it is important from what you say.

You had Folate - Ferritin - VitD - B12 tested with your thyroid tests ??

Hi Marz - I've just realised that. Thanks for pointing that out.

VitD at 70.6 would be better at 100++

Thanks Marz, I have now addressed this by taking a higher dose and i feel like i have more energy than i did before.

Your vitamin D level at 70-ish would be termed adequate, see, for example: southtees.nhs.uk/services/p...

It's not known whether this, and other conditions, cause vitamin D levels to drop, or whether lack of sunshine, appropriate food sources and supplementation and hence low vitamin D worsen the conditions.

In any case, if low vitamin D and other vitamins lowered TSH we'd be seeing recommendations to restrict sources of vitamins to improve our hypothyroidism.

I had a similar TSH to yours when first tested; five years later I was subclinically hypothyroid (TSH a bit over the upper limit, which was higher than for your range); a few months later stress had possibly caused a hyper flare; and two years after that I was "properly" hypothyroid, with treatment started eight years after I felt symptomatic.

It's likely your fT4 will drop below range and send your TSH above range, at which point you may be considered for treatment; more likely if/when your TSH goes above 10.

Thank you SmallBlueThing, that was very detailed and helpful. I will be referring back to all of these comments and taking action.
