I have been struggling with chronic fatigue, brain fog, concentration problems etc. for some time now.
I then had my thyroid checked and found very different recommendations regarding the blood values. According to the lab report, my values are fine (see below) but I keep reading recommendations such as that the TSH should be below 1, etc.
What are the recommended values and should I act on my values? I'm a bit confused.
Those are very strange labs! And I've never seen anyone have calcitonin tested before. Where do you live?
Along with the results and ranges that you've posted, we also need to know if you have any sort of thyroid diagnosis, and if yes, what you're taking for it.
FT3: 6.45 pmol/l (Range 2.3 - 6.3) 103.75%
FT4: 2.23 pmol/l (Range 0.7 - 1.8) 139.09%
Both your Frees are hugely over-range, which would suggest over-medication, yet your TSH is also high, which would suggest under-medication or a struggling thyroid. These results could be due to having Hashi's but both your antibodies are negative. So, I think we need a lot more information before anyone can advise you on anything.
As to what we would expect to see, that would depend on what you're taking - if anything. But a fully replaced hypo would more than likely have a TSH under 1, yes. But you can't just look at one result and base treatment on it, you have to look at all three - four if you count antibodies - and interpret them in conjunction with each other. So, your results are a mystery and not what we would expect to see at all.
Getting retested would be a very good idea, yes. A lot can happen in one and a half years!
It would be best if you could have the blood draw before 9 am, because that's when the TSH is highest. And have breakfast after because some foods/coffee/tea can affect TSH levels.
I don't think there are any other tests you should be having. Those are pretty comprehensive.
You mention strange labs. Recently I was tested by a walk-in test company. I was surprised to receive results with the pg/ml and ng/dL units. This is my post where I received very helpful links to conversion sites.
all right maybe something went wrong with the evaluation? i will do another comprehensive test and then get back to you. Thank you very much for your quick help!
