HI Susie, My doc told me to keep taking the B12 as what I don't use will void itself... I take Levothyroxin, have since I was a kid, also used to take synthyroid, and at the beginning from birth, Armor.. Even at 58 years old, all this still really confuses me...some of those test results seem to imply that I am Hyperthyroid.. but it doesn't feel that way.. seems with every drop in dose I get worse not better.. I still feel the dose I was taking was ok, actually started feelin decent, though still recovering from cancer treatment, and this Anastrozole I take Hormone inhibitor, has it's own host of side effects, and honestly some days I'm not sure which is causing this malaise.. I know that med does cause massive fatigue & head aches...I'll ask my doc about those other tests as well.. wondering why he didn't test me for the Folate and Ferritin levels.
Excess B12 is supposed to be excreted but why waste money taking too much? Our B12 store is supposed to be good for 2 years, so you could stop taking it or reduce to a small maintenance dose. My result was similar to yours and the Nurse Practitioner at my surgery freaked. I told him that I was supplementing but it was only 1000mcg methylcobalamin on 2 days a week. So I've stopped that now and the B Complex I take contains 400mcg methylcobalamin and even that was more than I needed so I've changed my B Complex to one which has a smaller amount.
If you are taking B12 you should also take B Complex to balance all the B vitamins, so I would ditch the B12 for now and just stick to a good B Complex.
Important to test Folate and Ferritin.
It looks like you need a high FT4 to give a decent level of FT3 which can suggest a combination of T4 and T3 might be better, either synthetic or NDT. NDT may not have the right ratio of T4 :T3 and using synthetics means you can tweak doses to suit your individual requirement.
Obviously your other health problems/medication doesn't help things.
By the way, it's impossible to become hypERthyroid if you are hypOthyroid, but you can be overmedicated.
EDITED TO ADD:
Mary has pointed out that your Vit D level is actually 91ng/ml so ignore what I said about it being low. I will edit my post to remove that.
If you are supplementing with D3 then you are heading towards toxicity and should stop for now, retest in 3 months to check your level then once it's down to 50ng/ml-ish then take a maintenance dose to keep it around 50-60ng/ml.
Hi.. thank you for replying the D2 is 91 standard ranges are 30-100ng.. I'm not taking D3 at all.. and I've cut my B-12 down to twice a week.. I did ask my doc about the Folate and Ferritin levels.. as far as why that wasn't included in the testing...
There are many things about this that I don't know.. I guess you could call it lazy on my part to a degree, as far as listening to docs.. all my life.. so when I met this endocrinologist, and he informed me that I am congenital/central hypothyroid, and he called it an "axis" between the thyroid/pituitary/hypothalamus.. I thought maybe he knew what he was doing.. one of the Primary things he said, after prescribing the B-12 5000 mcg, the D2 50,000 units, plus my levothyroxin, I thought he knew what he was talking about, Not to mention him telling me, upon our first meeting that he would go by how I feel vs lab results.
I was encouraged.. the test results before the one's I posted, he told me it was high.. but that he'd keep me at the .150 mcg Per how I felt,
but to cut back on the B-12.. that was it.. aside from my pulse rate being a tad high at rest, everything else seemed all good, and my energy came back, I started dropping weight, which was awesome.. Now I get the results I posted, and I am currently Annoyed that this doc has not run the FULL spectrum of tests.. not only the thyroid but all the other stuff plus perhaps a liver panel. although my oncologist has been testing that pretty regularly, and That is all good as well, given that chemo zaps the hell out of your liver enzymes, because of a supplement that I take, from the time I had and went through treatment for Hepatitis C.. type A.. I have been in a "sustained viral response" aka remission from that since 2006, I have continued this supplement called "vitaliver".. It's ingredients are as follows: Milk thistle, Angelica root, Chanc Pedra Leaves & stems, Artichoke Leaves, Dandelion root.. Great stuff, Oncologist Loves it.. I'd recommend it to anyone concerned about liver panels.. I started taking this supplement to help with the Hep C, and have continued to take it, and since all the cancer chemo, and radiation, My liver enzymes are Perfect!!! No issues at all..
I hope to have a return message from my doc on the question about the Folate and Ferritin...Hope to hear soon.. Thank you for the feed back, I will also forward the links in the replies I received!..
