Updated bloods after 25mcg dose increase

Hey everyone,

Just had my latest round of bloods after a 25mcg increase from 150 to 175 daily.

Pre increase: (still didnt feel right at all)

TSH - 1.83 mU/L (TSH range - 0.30 - 4.20)

T4 - 14.3 pmol/L (T4 range - 9.0 - 19.0)

T3 - 3.7 pmol/L (T3 range - 3 - 5.4)

New bloods:

TSH - 0.74 mU/L (TSH range - 0.30 - 4.20)

T4 - 17.6 pmol/L (T4 range - 9.0 - 19.0)

T3 - 4.0 pmol/L (T3 range - 3 - 5.4)

I also made 2 very tough decisions at around the same time of the medication increase..

After 4 years of not eating meat and VERY little dairy I started to eat meat again.

I am also 6 weeks into being gluten free - This is proving to be very difficult and a real life style changer BUT I am feeling the best I have in probably 2 years.

Also, my B12 is up and so is ferritin. But iron as a whole has slightly dropped.

In my last round of bloods the observation was made by you guys that I was a pore converter of T3, do we think this is still the case with my latest bloods?

Thank you!

After

T4 - 17.6 pmol/L (T4 range - 9.0 - 19.0) 86.00%

T3 - 4.0 pmol/L (T3 range - 3 - 5.4) 41.67%

Yes, absolutely a poor converter. In fact, worse than before the increase. So, it rather looks like you've increased too far.

Before

T4 - 14.3 pmol/L (T4 range - 9.0 - 19.0) 53.00%

T3 - 3.7 pmol/L (T3 range - 3 - 5.4) 29.17%

Hey,

Ah okay, that's not great is it. I just need to know what to tell the doctor really as they don't seem interested in the conversion of my T3 :( I mentioned maybe needing to try T3 the last time I was in and got shot down.

Just not entirely sure what my next steps are.

They're not interested in anything to do with thyroid! And that's our problem. They just don't care. So, we have to be more authoratitive.

I don't know how to handle doctors in the UK. When I lived there, my stategy was just to shout louder than they did. But, I hadn't been diagnosed then - mainly because they were too damned ignorant! So, what did he say to 'shoot you down' when you mentioned T3?

He probably doesn't even know what T3 is, not many of them do. They know nothing about conversion, either. Have you tried just saying that you need to see an endo? You might get the attention of an endo with those results, and your FT4 being so high. Only an endo can initiate T3 prescription, anyway.

Oh, by the way, do you have Hashi's?

Yep, I have asked to see an endo, and the response from the endo to the Dr was "his symptoms won't be coming from his thyroid with those results", crazy isnt it. That was the old results mind you.

I shall book another appointment and try explain the poor conversation is even more prevalent now.

And yea, I have Hashimotos. But I havent had my anti-bodies checked since been diagnosed 18 months ago as they say the test is too expensive.

Doesn't matter. Testing antibodies once you know they're positive doesn't give you any useful information.

Well, obviously that endo doesn't know what T3 is, either. Because it's T3 that causes symptoms when it's too high or too low. So, that was a really stupid thing for him to say. You're better off without endos like that!

Two reasons I asked if you had Hashi's:

- Hashi's people often have poor conversion just because they're Hashi's, and there's nothing you can do about it.

- Could it be that that very high FT4 was due to a Hashi's 'hyper' swing rather than your dose increase? Because on reflexion, it wen't up rather a lot for a 25 mcg increase in dose.

On the other hand, have you ever considered buying your own T3 on-line and cutting out these ignorant middle-men?

We can't buy T3 here in the UK, at least, I can't find any

No, you can't buy it in the UK without a prescription. Nor can you here in France. But you can online...

dexterholland91, If you want to buy your own T3 without a prescription (it is legal to do this) you will need to find a source outside the UK.

Should you decide to go down this route, you can put up a post here asking for members to recommend their trusted sources.

But before you do that, please make yourself fully aware of the potential for scammers. We have a post about this here for you to read:

Or you book a consultation with Roseway labs in the uk who might give you a prescription for T3. I haven’t done this myself but I’m surprised it’s not suggested more often.
