i can’t lose weight & blood results. Advice please?

Hi Team

I’ve been feeling pretty good in myself on my current dose of 3 grains of NDT at 5:30am 10mcg T3 at 12 and 1.5 grains at 3pm. i can exercise and generally stay awake until bedtime (😂 no more afternoon naps).

But i cannot shift my weight i gained nearly 10% of my body weight and it’s really getting my down. I log my calories, eat healthy l, exercise regularly. I’m soya, gluten, dairy free and don’t eat much meat/fish

Please see my recent blood results for any insights. The High T3 is artificial, because the blood test on 31 was done 3 hours after taking my NDT. So the 3/8 reading is more accurate

there are a couple of warnings on there, but i do not know what they mean?

I have secondary hypothyroidism, not hashis, so TSH is of no relevance

any help please?

What are your most recent vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 results

Looking at previous posts…you have high cortisol?

Have you done saliva cortisol and DHEA test recently

Hi Slowdragon

I’ve not had my vits tested for a year. Ferritin was 106 (50-200) and B12 821 (200-910).

My cortisol was tested earlier this year via saliva test, and is still sky high.

I am on 2 pumps of Oestrogel as well for HRT.

I feel like my metabolism has just slowed down dramatically and like ‘the drugs are not working anymore’. Does that make sense?

high MCH suggests anaemia

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing. It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Low triglycerides

Could be because you might be on slightly too high a dose NDT

Thank you. I need to do an iron panel as I do not eat meat or fish regularly.

I wonder if the T3 is too much rather than the NDT?

I'd be more tempted to meddle with the Liothyronine then the NDT.Do you supplement with B12 as you don't eat meat or fish regularly?

Dr Peatfield recommended lowering carbs to loose weight but don't cut them out in his Living with your Thyroid book. You can get a lot of your carbs through vegetables. I used to eat high level carbs just two or three times per week (, potatoes, rice pasta) that worked well for me. No calorie counting and I don't have a portion size problem.

I do take B12 complex.

I eat porridge every morning but very little carbs otherwise, mainly veggies and not many processed foods either. I haven’t changed my diet and still gained 1/2 Stone. So i blame the meds. But how to get that going again

I would still get your B12 checked....if it hasn't been for a while. You need your B12 level to be optimal for best results with your Thyroid meds.

I supplement, and it’s always been pretty good because of that.

But i guess a full vit & iron panel wouldn’t hurt 😊

Thank you

What do you suggest re the T3? Cut it out? Increase?

waveylines profile image
waveylines in reply toPixieElv

No not increase as you were a little over the range. I'd drop it down just a little.

I have started a plant based diet, so no gluten, dairy, processed foods, sugar, no eggs etc though I have the odd bit of chicken or lamb every now and again and I have lost 1 stone so far.

Hiya

That’s basically me. I ready eggs but no meat. 😊

I lost weight by going 'gluten-free' and I had no problems. Weight reduced and I felt well.

I’m gluten-free but that’s not doing it. Unfortunately

This is a clear high cortisol issue. L Theanine is a very effective supplement for reducing cortisol.

The ‘tummy weight’ is typical of high cortisol. I started to take it 2 weeks ago for anxiety which was not responding to pharmaceuticals. I was amazed to find that after a week my BP had gone down from 179/90 to 116/69. My BP has always been a text book 120/80 when an SNRI antidepressant pushed it up. I’ve taken magnesium to no avail. L Theanine reduces BP by relieving anxiety, reducing ephedrine (raised by SNRI) and increasing Dopamine.

High Cortisol is always seen with low Dopamine. It might be interesting for you to look up the effects of low dopamine and see whether you fit the picture.

When cortisol is reduced, weight will start to come off.

Basic info. Plenty more on internet

Oh thank you. That’s so helpful.

My dopamine levels are definitely low. I’ll try the Teanine as everything else hasn’t worked.

Thank you again

How do you, what strength and which one please? There are so many

Natures Trove L-Theanine 200mg by Nature's Trove - 120 Vegetarian Capsules amzn.eu/d/2dZ039C

I did a lot of research on this before settling on this one. The dose is 1 - 2 200 mg tablets. I take one. I was staggered at the response. Most supplements take quite a while to kick in but I felt a difference in about 50 minutes. That’s what most people find. See the link I gave you.

Hope it works for you 😉
