Shocked about T3 blood test results.

Thank you for the comments I received yesterday about my high T3 blood test results

T3 34 (3.1-6.8 )

TSH 0.01 ( .27-4.2)

T4 17.5 ( 11-22)

I just wondered if not adhering to the one hour after rule before having caffeine and food could mean that there could be loads of T3 swimming about in my blood and not much being taken up by the cells. I reduced my NDT this morning by .25 to 3 grains. Waited an hour before my cup of tea and I've felt really well all day.

My heart may be little fast so I will reduce by .25 again in a few weeks but why do I feel better on this dose than when it was much lower?

Can anyone comment on this please?

Thank you.

I

Drinking caffeine close to taking your NDT would not cause an absorption problem at cellular level. Caffeine affects absorption in the gut.

Those labs don't make any sense at all. I cannot believe that the approximately 30 mcg T3 found in 3.25 grains of NDT could make your FT3 rise that much. Have you had results like this before? It could be something to do with your Hashi's, but that's too high for an FT3 result due to a Hashi's 'hyper' swing. Do you take any biotin?

Thank you for your comment grey goose. No I don't take biotin.

No I've never had results like this before.

Then I would assume lab error and get them done again.

Just another thought. When I had my blood test done. The vein was so full it squirted blood and the nurse suggested I do my blood pressure. It was high. 44/ 70.

Very unusual for me

I'm not sure that would have anything to do with it, but I'm really not sure. I don't see how there could be a connection.

High blood pressure can be a symptom of too high thyroid hormones.

It can also be a symptom of too low thyroid hormones. :)

But, what Everdean is saying - as I understand it - is she wonders if her high blood pressure had anything to do with her FT3 jumping up like. I doubt it.

I've been taking my blood pressure at home since and it's always low ie.

Just now. Sitting 101/59 P 72

Standing 97/63 P 87.

So it was a bit of stress in the surgery probably.

Thanks for your interest grey goose, and all you others.

Yes, could very well have been the stress. :)

Everdean - I can’t help but wonder whether a decimal point’s been misplaced on that T3 result. It just doesn’t seem right at all.

Could you afford to run another test - maybe just have T3 tested in isolation? And perhaps by a different lab?

I have an appointment with the surgery pharmacist on Wednesday so I will ask then. Thank you jazzw.

That high T3 is very unlikely on such a dose of NDT and with FT4 at 17.5. Could you phone the lab and ask them to check it, and also, if they still have the blood sample, to retest it? I've phoned both my local NHS lab and private labs before now to query things and they're usually very helpful. Blood samples seem to be kept for about a week in case of queries. Good luck with this, like Jazzw I wonder if a decimal point has been missed out.

I could ring the surgery on Monday and see what hat I can do about that. Thank you Framboise

There has to be a mistake surely! If it is 3.4 instead of 34 that would make a lot of sense. And your levels are likely OK in spite of TSH being below range. Especially if you feel well on it
