Do My Vits B12 & D Need Increasing?

Hi, had my vitamin B12 and vitamin D blood test taken on Monday (via Medichecks).

My results:

vitamin B12 (active): 150 nmol/L (lab range 37.5 - 188)

vitamin D: 179 nmol/L (50-250)

Do I need to increase these? I don't know what the optimum levels should be.

Thank you.

I am assuming you are already supplementing these levels as they are good.

Vit D aim for 100-150.

Active B12 should be over 75.

If anything you could slightly drop your D supplement.

Excess B12 isn't an issue as is water soluble.

Where are your folate and ferritin levels at?

Thank you for your feedback. Yes I supplement.

My ferritin: 101 ug/L (lab range 30 - 150)

Folate 44.5nmol/L (lab range 8.83 - 60.8)

I assume these are ok. I feel an improvement with my ferritin being at this level. It's been dragging around 20-40 for a long time even with supplements and high iron foods. Transdermal iron patches helped increase it properly in the end.

I'm surprised about the transdermal iron patches. Which ones did you use?

You will probably have to continue supplementing all levels otherwise they will just drop back.

Transdermal patch I used:

Yeah, I thought I might have to carry on supplementing.

No, you don't need to increase. We suggest

B12: 100+ when it's Active B12

VitD: 100-150nmol/L which is the level recommended by the Vit D Council, Vit D Society and Grassroots Health.

Do you supplement?

Ah great, thank you for the feedback. Yes I do supplement. I'm using Cytoplan's B12's in sublingual lozenges (hydroxocobalamin & methylcobalamin+adenosylcobalamin). I take D3+K2 in oil form.

In that case I'd reduce Vit D to alternate days and retest end of October to see if you need to increase for the winter. There's no benefit going over 150, it's just wasting money.

For B12 I'd stop and see if just the B Complex will maintain your level now, again taking it when you don't need it is wasting money.
