t4 t3 tanked after lowering t3

I lowered t3, not sure why i did or maybe no, i took hald in a.m half later (i wason 4 lyothyronine) it has a half shelf life i studied and learned, so to not tank compared to t4, i decided to dose half and half. but i guess i forgot too many

i have gained weight been low energy and doc said raise it back low tsh is fine when t3 is supplemented as the man in the 50s knew who did the first studies on t3 therapy, sadly, many docs do not know this, could 1 5mcg or 2 missed here and there tank my t3 and 4?? i guess so?

i also started iodine. I am unsure if i remembered to test it, as it was like 30 and deficient. Most docs are washed by school and refuse to treat if you take it, for 20 years i have been threatened by docs if i took it and selenium theyd not see me so i finally seen a blood test and my western/eastern MD said um ya, take it! the sea kelp seemed bunk and fillers. I got liquid next ill get ole lugols.

i also have hashimotos but she said numbers recently in range but my metabolism has never been worse and weight ever since having my daughter almost 6 yrs ago never lost much of it and only gained after i stopped nursing, siiiigh, i need energy and to be able to be more active as she is VERY active.

so in conclusion wondering how much t3 do people take? my last doc i tried to see that was covered by insurance not out of pocket wanted to lower it .and is too focused on TSH and young and against iodine testing,

also wondering if anyone splits dose due to half shelf life, takes selenium and or zinc. i am so tired wish i could heal this and swallow another pill afer 22 years and not yet 40. lyme i believe or EBV caused mine after much medical stress and an over medicated OD at 17.

bless you all. thanks for reading.

Hi DeedellaD, welcome to the forum.

It doesn't matter how much other people take, you have to take what you need as an individual. Our needs are all different. :)

In order for people to be able to help you, could you give us your latest blood test numbers: results and ranges? And tell us how much T4 and T3 you're taking? We do need all the details to get a clear picture.

T3 doesn't have a 'shelf life', it has a 'half-life'. That means that if you take 10 mcg T3 at 9 am today, by 9 am tomorrow, you will have 5 mcg left in your blood, minus what gets into your cells. But, what gets into your cells stays there for about three days.

But, that has nothing to do with how much T3 you take in total. How much you need to take depends on many things, but you can get a rough idea if you're on the right dose or not by looking at your blood test results. And, by how you feel.

I'm on the side of those doctors that disapprove of iodine. It's rare anyone needs to take it. Especially when you are hypo. And excess iodine can cause all sorts of problems.

When you are hypo, and taking thyroid hormone replacement - T4 and T3 - you need less iodine, not more, because your thyroid is not making thyroid hormone anymore. And, you will be getting iodine from your hormone replacement. 100 mcg T4 contains about 65 mcg iodine, which is recycled in your body. Excess iodine is antithyroid, so could be the reason your levels have dropped. But, as I said, we need more information to be able to help. :)
