Thyroid plus test results

Good morning all,

I have just received a test result for my thyroid and a little confused.

I have hypothyroidism but there is a suggestion it might of changed to hypo.

T4 159 ml (59-154) High

TSH 0.9mlu/l (0.27-4.2miu/l) Low

TPEX 40 IU/ml (0.0-34.0) High

TGAB 203 (0.0-115.0) High

All the others are normal.

I had a scan over 14 months ago which showed a lot of nodules on my thyroid.

I take 150mg levothyroxine, Stelara 90mg injection for crohns disease, Atorvastatin 20mg, Ramipril 2.5mg, Lercanidipine 20mg, Colesevelam 625mg and eyedrops for dry eyes.

These medications are taken at different times from the thyroxine.

I have a benign tumour on the adrenal gland which was tested about a year ago and was not affecting me.

Hope you can shine a light on this for me.

How do you feel?

Did you do the test as per the protocol recommended here? Test at 9am, fasting, last levo dose 24hrs before the blood draw & no biotin containing supplements for 3-7 days?

What supplements are you taking?

When hypo we get low stomach acid which means we cannot absorb vitamins well from our food, regardless of a great diet. For thyroid hormone to work well we need OPTIMAL levels of vitamins. Have you recently or could you ask your GP to test levels of ferritin, folate, B12 & D3? Private tests are available, see link for companies offering private blood tests & discount codes, some offer a blood draw service at an extra cost. thyroiduk.org/help-and-supp...

Hi

My blood draw was early morning, no biotin etc, vitamin test was normal (I take Vit D as used to be low).

I forgot to mention i am taking HRT patches Estradot and also recently added Testogel ( pea size amount) from GP.

So what were the vitamin results with their ranges please? Normal is not good enough, we need OPTIMAL levels for our thyroid hormone to work well.

Was there no FT3 result? From the above test your FT4 is over range and if you left the 24hrs before the dose we need to look at the FT3 to see how well you are converting, or not. Can't do that without an FT3 result.

You are not over replaced as such as your TSH is still within the normal range.

You need full vitamin tests + TSH + FT4 + FT3.

HRT can increase the need for thyroid hormone but your rsults are difficult to assess.

I forgot to say I am cold (hands and feet mostly) unusual for me to feel so cold.

Hair is falling out too.

What a mess !

Hair loss is often down to low ferritin, what was your number? You need it to be 90-100 to feel well & no hair loss.

Working on your vitamin levels will really help you.

You seem to be converting fine and on that test your FT4 wasn't over range. I am assuming that was on the same dose you are on now?

No ferritin result?

Your folate is very low and B12 could do with a boost so I would recommend a good B complex that contains both. This B complex has all the right vitamins at a not unreasonable cost for 90 days supply. amazon.co.uk/Liposomal-Soft...

If your cholesterol is high, it would suggest that your body considers your T3 to be too low. (And, by the way, you are only over-medicated if your FT3 is over-range.) Taking statins if you are a woman and hypo is not a good idea. The cholesterol won't kill you, but the statins might!

When was your cholesterol last tested?

Hi,

My cholesterol was 7.1

HDL 1.71

Non HDL 5.36

total HDL 4.2 (non fasting)

Yes, but when was that? And, how long have you been taking statins? And, what was your FT3 level when that cholesterol test was done?

We can't take just one result in isolation, we have to look at them all together and see how they relate to each other.

Folate is low

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

Thorne currently difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate methyl folate supplement and separate B12
