Hi, i posted a message last week asking about thyroid tests and i have now received my results back from Medicheck. I would appreciate if someone could have a look and let me know if their are any further improvements. Many thanks. Laurianne

You're not diagnosed with a thyroid condition and not on any thyroid meds are you?
Can you add the reference ranges, they are using a new lab sometimes now which has a very wide range for ferritin and very different ranges for folate.
Do you have an FT4 result?
Antibodies are low and don't suggest autoimmune thyroid disease.
Active B12 isn't too bad but we would suggest it would be better over 100. Are you supplementing with any B vitamins at all?
No i have done the test as i seem to have quite a lot of symptoms and have done for years. Oestrogen dominance has been suggested as i have never felt well since i finished periods abruptly 28 years ago and have never been tested for hormone imbalance. NHS just wont do it. In hindsight i should have had investigations. I am detoxing at the moment from oestrogen with various supplements.
Yes i am on quite a few supplements. Vits ADK, i am not on a full b vit complex as i find i get IC. B6 50mg, B5 900mg as i suffer from wired but tired feeling, B3 600mg. I have just noticed i am not on b12 or B1.
The ferritin range tells us the lab used to process the test is INUVI.
ferritin 168 ug 30-650
As far as I am concerned this is a ridiculously wide range for ferritin. When questioned about this Medichecks replied with
’Our physician has come back to me with a further response to your email. They have advised as follows: We have received further information the lab about ferritin reference ranges. They confirm that they are sex dependent up to the age of 60, then beyond the age of 60 the reference range is the same for both sexes:
Males 16-60: 30-400 ug/L
Female's: 16-60: 30-150
Both >60: 30-650
The lower limit of 30 ug/L is in accordance with the updated NICE guidance and the upper limits are in accordance with guidance from the Association of Clinical Biochemists.'
Considering that the range usually used for females has always been 13-150 I personally am not taking this range seriously but everyone will have to make up their own mind about this.
According to some experts the optimal ferritin level for thyroid function is 90-110ug/L.
folate 12.6 range 30-650
i am not on a full b vit complex as i find i get IC. B6 50mg, B5 900mg as i suffer from wired but tired feeling, B3 600mg. I have just noticed i am not on b12 or B1.
You have repeated the ferritin range here for folate. I believe the folate range with INUVI IS 8.83-60.8. Folate is recommended to be at least half way through range so that would be about 35 with that range. We would normally suggest a B Complex here but if you can't use one then you might want to consider using methylfolate, 400mcg dose is possibly enough as that is what's normally included in a B Complex.
Unless you have a reason for such a high dose of B6 you should be aware that the recommended dose for regular use is 10mg as regular high dose B6 can cause neurological problems.
active b12 83 range 37.5 - 60.8
Again this range is incorrect. You have put the top limit of the folate range and the range for Active B12 is 37.5-188 or 25.1-165.
Active B12 below 70 suggests testing for B12 deficiency and we suggest to aim for 100+.
vit D 145nmol range 50-250
This is a good result, the Vit D Council, Vit D Society and Grassroots Health all recommend a level between 100-150nmol/L and a recent blog post on Grassroots Health recommends at least 125nmol/L.
TSH 1.95miu range 0.27 - 4.2
free T3 5.1pmol/ range 3.1 - 6.8
free thyroxine 20.3 pmol range 12.22
These appear to be good results.
A normal healthy person with no thyroid condition would generally have TSH no higher than 2 (often around 1) with FT4 around mid-range-ish.
Providing that you did not take any biotin B7 or any supplement containing it then your results will not have been skewed by this supplement.
thyroglobulin antibodies 11.5kiu range 0 - 115
thyroid peroxidase 10.8 kiu range 0 - 34
Doctor said i do not have autoimmune.
Your antibodies are low so don't suggest autoimmune thyroid disease. However, one negative result doesn't exclude it whereas one positive result does confirm it. Also, it's possible to have Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease) without raised antibodies. It might be worth repeating the thyroid panel, including antibodies, at another time to see if results are similar.
Many thanks for your informative reply. I will try and look for a methyl B vit complex. The IC problems may be due to the oestrogen build up i have. The range and limits i have just copied of the test results. Just to confirm does ferritin need building up or can i get all from the B complex? Once again many thanks. Laurianne

B Complex only contains B vitamins, it doesn't contain iron.so wont do anything to your ferritin level.
In my opinion your Ferritin level is good but please read my comments above about the ferritin ranges for the lab which processed your tests and decide yourself.
What I have quoted above is for the new lab Medichecks has used (INUVI) who doesn't use the range you mention so your test must have been processed by a different lab as it has a different range.
