Hi all

I've been taking the BetterYou D3000+k2 spray since 9th September. I've stopped taking a multivitamin and intend to replace the iron, B vitamins etc on an individual basis over the next months.

Originally I wasn't going to replace magnesium as a matter of course but my latest magnesium blood test has shown a slight decrease from 0.95 or 1 mmol/L (I had 3 tests last year) (range is 0.7 to 1) to 0.93 in my test done last week.

In your experiences, which is best:

1. pure magnesium or a magnesium and zinc combo?

and

2. cream or tablet?

Do you know that you need zinc?

Zinc and copper should be balanced. We Hypos often tend to have one high and the other low so really it makes sense to test to see if we need to supplement and, if so, which.

2. cream or tablet?

I think this is down to personal choice.

There are creams, gels and epsom salt baths which will give a certain amount of magnesium.

If taking an oral supplement you need to check to see which is the most suitable form for you:

Oral magnesium should be taken 4 hours away from thyroid meds and as it tends to be calming it's best taken in the evening. The usual dose is 350-450mg of elemental magnesium daily - check the elemental amount as this can be different from the total amount shown on the packaging, eg magnesium taurate 600mg from one producer contains 200mg elemental magnesium, the rest is taurine.

I'm not on any thyroid medication, I've been officially declared euthyroid on my medical notes. I do have high TPO antibodies (621% through range) and a goitre. I'm in the no man's land of monitoring my TSH which is actually fallen over the last year from nearly 4 to 1.21. I don't feel well currently though.😔

I have no idea if I am deficient in zinc, I asked only because so many magnesium supplements include zinc and I wondered if this was a relationship similar to the vitamin D and K2.

Can I get tested for copper and zinc deficiencies with the NHS? If so what symptoms would trigger an agreement to test?

I see one of those links recommends supplementing calcium with magnesium? I don't know if my calcium levels are optimum but they have increased slightly over the last year and are currently: serum calcium 60% through range and serum adjusted calcium concentration is 75% through range but it has been up and down through out the year.

Having read though those links several times (my brainfog is very real 😣) I like these amazon.co.uk/dp/B09GL3DCSZ/... They are not the most expensive, they contain 480mg if taking 3 tablets daily (it recommends 4 which equals 640mg). From those articles, the taurate part can help heart health and lower blood pressure. I have had heart palpitations before (almost certainly due to low potassium) and a higher than optimal blood pressure despite taking medication for it (especially the diastolic). I have a home blood pressure machine (as advised by the GP) so I can monitor blood pressure. I take 6 sandoK tablets plus 5mg ramipril daily. Have I missed any vital information on why the magnesium taurate might be problematic for me?

I don't think they'd routinely test for them, like a lot of tests we Hypos sometimes have to do them ourselves. You'd need to check for symptoms.

Those contain 160mg elemental magnesium per 4 capsules, so 40mg elemental magnesium per capsule.
