Thyroid Results Back, help!

Hi

I'm experiencing fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, nausea....NHS doc said everything is normal. This is not new, I've had CFS in the past, recently relapsed.

B12 was 338 - so I began injections daily to bring up which is helping

Just had thyroid labs back from Medichecks..... Any ideas whats going on? Is it worth trying glandulars slowly? Body temp is below 36 every morning.....Thanks!

Hi, someone better than me will be along to give advice but are you on thyroid meds with a diagnosed thyroid condition? T4 is obviously low, below range, and TSH could be lower but T3 conversely isn’t too bad. With a T4 like that I’d have all your symptoms too.

Also how are you taking body temp? I’d not set too much store by that as ear thermometers are notorious for reading low, that I can tell you!

I'm not an expert but also have ME. If you're just taking B12 you might be missing out on some of the other B vitamins. The active form of Folate - 5-MTHF Methylfolate is important for me for instance.

You have wiggle room for a Levo dose increase. Also maybe add Selenium to help conversion.

Diet is really important for me. Low carb, whole foods, no junk. Cut out dairy, gluten, soy.

It depends on whether or not you are diagnosed hypothyroid and on Levothyroxine or do not have a diagnosis.

If on Levo you are undermedicated.

If not diagnosed you could be looking at Central Hypothyroidism which is where the problem lies with the pituitary or hypothalamus rather than the thyroid. Central Hypothyroidism is diagnosed when TSH is low, normal or minimally elevated with low/below range FT4.

Ferritin is good.

Folate I would want a bit higher - into double figures. As you are having B12 injections are you taking a B Complex to keep all the B vitamins balanced? If not then you should start, my choice is Thorne Basic B. If you look at different brands then look for the words "bioavailable" or "bioactive" and ensure they contain methylcobalamin (not cyanocobalamin) and methylfolate (not folic acid). Avoid any that contain Vit C as this stops the body from using the B12. Vit C and B12 need to be taken 2 hours apart.

When taking a B Complex we should leave this off for 3-7 days before any blood test because it contains biotin and this gives false results when biotin is used in the testing procedure (which most labs do).

Vit D isn't too bad really and may improve during the summer months naturally. The Vit D Society and Grassroots Health recommend a level of 100-150nmol/L, with a recent blog post on Grassroots Health mentioning a study which recommends over 125nmol/L. If you want to supplement then you'd probably be looking at 2,000iu D3 daily, along with important cofactors - magnesium and Vit K2-MK7 - and retest after 3 months to check level.

Are you on replacement thyroid hormones…..if yes ….levothyroxine? How much

Rather than just taking B12

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid) This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endo.confex.com/endo/2016en...

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate methyl folate supplement and continue separate B12

Low B12 symptoms

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a B12 supplement as well as a B Complex (to balance all the B vitamins) initially for first 2-4 months.

once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

B12 range in U.K. is too wide

Interesting that in this research B12 below 400 is considered inadequate
