Levo issues

I am currently on NDT but having issues with really high t3, really low t4 and high tsh. Every time I increase 1/4 grain from 1 grain to 1/4 grain my t3 goes over range and I feel hypo.

So….my Dr is recommending I add in 12mg of t4 levo. I currently have loads of boxes of tirisont so I am using this.

The reason I am not on levo or synthetics is because I react badly to them. Body aches, worse extreme fatigue and body aches. Well I am on day 2 of the 12mg added in and I can barley move or get out of bed.

Does anyone else have this sort of reverse reaction? I am just wondering if I need to just persevere and carry on in the hope to feel better in a week or so?

Please note every brand of levo (I have tried them all) does the same thing).

Vitamin levels are not awful but iron is low and I am supplementing all the ones that need it.

Hello Ajva :

Well if you couldn't tolerate T4- Levo - I don't see the point of introducing it.

Your antibodies are very high and probably driving your symptoms and this blood test result.

Were you ok on NP Thyroid - could this be the fillers in whatever NDT you are taking ?

With Hashimoto's AI thyroid disease you are liable to these ' swings ' in symptoms as your thyroid is producing erratic levels of thyroid hormones as this auto immune disease systematically attacks the gland and ultimately disables functionality with you becoming further compromised and needing more thyroid hormone replacement.

Some people suggest stopping your thyroid hormone replacement during these ' phases ' so to try and off set the severity of the attack on your thyroid and when the swing swings back, restart your medication and likely find you need a dose increase as your thyroid will have become further damaged and unable to support you.

I do not have Hashimoto's but on NDT so my dose has remained the same since I started self medicating around 4 years ago.

On NDT I do have a low suppressed TSH - 0,01 - and my T4 is only around 20% through the range BUT my T3 is slightly over the range ( time and dose dependant for a blood test ) but I am fine, well, and in no way over medicated.

No thyroid hormone replacement works well until your core strength vitamins and minerals are optimal and I know, through trial ad error, that I need my ferritin up at around 100 : folate at around 20 : active B12 at around 75 ++ and vitamin D at around 100 : in order to be able to support my body and optimise conversion of the NDT.

The biggest issue for me is I have pots. So the t3 or even slightly over range t3 causes my heart to race even more than it does already. With NDT and no meds my resting would be sitting on 150bpm. I am medicated with heart drugs so it is less.

I have tried about 4/5 times now to increase but even that 1/4 grain higher just sends me hypo. I feel anxious, jittery, can’t get heart rate down even on meds.

I am currently on armour as my thyroid Dr can not get hold of any other types other than ERFA.

Oh, I'm sorry, I had a quick look back buy didn't pick up this other complication.

Well, I've read Efra has less ' fillers ' than other brands - but I 've no experience of either .

I guess suggesting T3 only isn't what you want to hear ?

Sorry, my knowledge is limited :

That’s ok I honestly appreciate any input. I did think of trying t3 only as it is my last option. I am currently waiting on more bloods that are testing my RT3.

I have tried ERFA before but it was worse then armour for the heart racing.

Hopefully at some point I will find the right balance.

I've just read your previous post to this one and saw your vitamin and mineral results.

So, when my ferritin was down at 22/23 I was very shaky and couldn't cope, or stand for any length of time.

I started researching low ferritin, and literally ' fell in ' to this forum through a link - and everywhere I read ferritin needs to be over 70 for any thyroid hormone replacement to work, and I found this to be very true.

I couldn't stomach the NHS iron tablets so purchased an iron bisglycinate, generally marketed as a more ' gentle iron ' preparation, I also took Spatone liquid iron sachets, and ate liver twice a week and once I tipped over around 45/50 I felt more steady on my feet.

It does take time, but so worthwhile as maintaining your core strength vitamins and minerals essential for wellness, let alone the interaction and conversion of thyroid hormone replacement.

Hi, I think you need to reduce ndt with 1/4 if you want to add some levo.
