What to take, when

These are the medications and vitamins that I take. I have no idea when to fit in the vitamins and whether they react with what I’m taking.

T3 - I take this at 7am (12.5mcg)

T4 - I take this around 10pm

HRT - I have been taking this at lunch

Antihistamine - I have been taking this at lunch too

Thorne B Complex - I have no idea when to take this

Jarrow B12 - I have no idea when to take this either

Vitamin D spray - I take this after breakfast

Please can someone help me to know when to take the vitamins so they don’t prohibit something else I’m taking or the vitamin itself.

Thank you very much!

Why don't you take the T3 and levo together? That gives you more time to fit in the vitamins.

Does your HRT contain oestrogen? If so, it should be four hours away from thyroid hormone.

B vits should be taken two hours away from thyroid hormone.

:)

Thank you!Yes, the HRT contains a little oestrogen.

Can I take the T3 at night? Soon I’ll be adding more. Is it not best to spread it out through the day?

Do B vits not need to be taken on an empty stomach?

I’m sorry for all the questions!

Thank you again.

OK, so the HRT needs to be taken four hours away from thyroid hormone.

Yes, you can take the T3 at night. Some people need to spread the T3 out through the day - but not everyone - but T3 and levo are not the same thing, so doesn't matter if you take them at the same time.

You can take B vits with food, they don't have to be taken on an empty stomach, no.

:)

Thank you very much. That’s really helpful. I think the best thing I can do is write a timetable. I have asthma and today I was prescribed an antihistamine (not an over the counter one). Does that have to be separate?

I think I’ll take T3 and T4 at around 7am.

I’ll take the HRT at night. Perhaps with the antihistamine.

The D and B vits I’ll take just before lunch.

Is that a good plan?

Thank you!

As long as the antihistamine is two hours away from thyroid hormone, I don't think it matters when you take it.

I take T3 only. I follow the advice of a doctor (now deceased) who was also an Adviser to Thyroiduk.org.uk before his accidental death.

I will give you a link to Dr John Lowe, researcher, scientist. doctor and expert on the use of T3 as he took it himself.

I will give you some links which you mght find helpful. I have never split doses of whatever I've taken as Dr Lowe stated that all of our T3 receptor cells need to be saturated and it then sends out 'waves' throughout the day.

I read the article. It’s very interesting indeed. I think I will try taking the T3 all in one dose and see how it goes. How did you discover that T3 is all you need? Did you gradually give up T4?

It’s so sad about Dr Lowe. What a huge loss to thyroid medicine.

B vitamins can be stimulating so it's recommended to take them no later than lunchtime. You could take them with breakfast as long as it's 2 hours since taking your T3 (some people say T3 isn't as fussy as Levo so you don't have to leave so long, personally I leave the same time gap).

However, do you have very low B12 and that is why you're taking both B12 and a B Complex?

Thank you! Yes, I’d read that about B vits so I don’t take them if I can’t fit them in before lunch.

Here’s the result of my last test. It was suggested that I take a B12 and B complex.

Thank you again!

Yes, I'd carry on with the B12 until level reaches 405pmol/l or 550pg/ml then it would be OK to use just the B Complex.

I’ll do that, thank you.

You might want to split T3 into smaller doses spread through the day, especially if adding a further 1/4 tablet

7am 1/4 tablet T3

9am

vitamin B complex/B12

after breakfast along with vitamin D

3pm 1/4 tablet T3

If adding 3rd dose T3 - try taking last dose with levothyroxine at 10pm

Thank you! The reason I am taking the T3 as one dose of 12.5mcg was to really give a boost. It seems to be working because my voice is a lot stronger for more of the day. It would usually go from about 3-4pm but now it’s much better. When I added another 6.25mcg, I was going to take that later in the day. So I’d split it two ways, rather than three. That would be until or unless I add another (4th dose) 6.25mcg. I’m planning on adding a third dose next Monday (14th).

What are the benefits of spreading the T3 through the day?

Thank you again.

Trial and error what suits each person

Some take it all in one go at bedtime…others take it waking

Many people split into 2 or 3 doses spread through the day

I will try then and see what works and change things accordingly. Thank you again.

I’d take thyroid meds in the morning together, vits middle of day and get at night (progesterone makes you sleepy).

That’s a good idea. I think I’ll try that from tomorrow. It makes sense to take the thyroid medication in the morning.

Thank you
