Endo who supports NDT in South

I was in hospital this week with very high blood pressure 222/129. I am on Armour Thyroid NDT 1 grain/day. I also take Biotin (B7) and B12.

My Bloods were TSH 0.04 T3 7.9 T4 13.2

Two questions please:

1. Should I stop taking my NDT for a few days altogether or just reduce to half for a bit?

2. I would like to see an Endo who will support me with NDT does anyone know of one in the Berkshire area preferably but willing to travel.

Many thanks

Helen

You could be hypo and need an increase of amour, it's not just hyper ppl who get high blood pressure. I know a doctor that will do a phone conference with you, once you've had a full thyroid panel done. Send me a PM if you want his details and I hope you feel better soon.

Hello Busybees :

Did a dose increase in NDT cause the high blood pressure ?

Do you have the ranges for these results and how long elapsed between your last dose and the blood draw ?

Biotin can interfere with the laboratory testing assays - are these results very different from " normal ' readings for you ?

Hi Penny Annie, I am not sure. but I have gained a lot of weight in the last 2 years (3 stone).Maybe I will stop taking the Biotin for a while.

The results are very different from my normal readings.

Thanks for your PM too.

Hey there Helen ;

What has changed to cause the weight increase, different brand, different dose, life style, other health issues ???

Several brands have been recalled over the last couple of years :

What brand are you taking now ?

Your T3 looks a little high - do you feel a little over medicated ;

Though I likely wouldn't be as I've been close to that number myself using the 3.10 - 6.80 T3 range??

busybees2k,

1 grain NDT isn't very much but FT3 is looking high so can we have the ranges to your lab results (numbers in brackets).

However, having said that biotin is known for skewing lab results.

I take NDT and feel dreadful when my T4 slips too low. Have you considered taking some levo alongside your NDT?

Thanks for the suggestion Witching hour, however I won't take any synthetic medication as I get all the side effects. My T4 is actually quite high too. @ 13.2I am going to go and see an Endo who will support me on Armour NDT.

:-)

My T4 is actually quite high too. @ 13.2

Without knowing the lab range that test was done on , 13.2 may be either 'quite high' , or 'quite low' .

If lab range is eg 12-22 then 13.2 is fairly low .

If lab range is eg 7.9-14 then 13.2 is fairly high.

Do you have the lab ranges that came with your fT3 result of 7.9 and your fT4 result of 13.2 ?

The lab ranges used are an important part of interpreting your results correctly .

Thanks for your comments Tattybogle. I had the tests done on NHS and they didnt give me lab ranges. I had enough trouble getting them to give me the figures they did!I have reduced my dose and will have private tests done in a month.

Don't take this as criticizing you at all!

Part of the Data Protection which gives you access says that the data supplied to you must be capable of being understood. Things like obscure codes, or reference intervals, are intrinsic to that. That they were not supplied is a travesty of their duty to you.

busybees2k,

Many of us have arranged for our lab results to be available online which avoids that having to ask the surgery for results after every test. Enquire at your surgery if this is available.

Another way is to ask your surgery for a print out which will contain all info you need. Do not accept results over the phone because there is too much info to write down.

There are other causes of high BP not associated to hypo/hyper. If this were me I wouldn't be altering my thyroid meds until the test results were clearer, as a thyroid hormone retest might be required without biotin assay interference. .

Not what you're looking for?
