Hi I’ve just had a raise in NDT from 1 1/2 grains to 1 3/4 grains I’m on day 12 and feel awful! I take it will take longer to kick in.
Ndt: Hi I’ve just had a raise in NDT from 1 1/... - Thyroid UK
Ndt
I don't see why it should take longer to kick in. How did you feel on 1 1/2 grains? Are you sure you really needed an increase?
Didn’t feel good on 1 1/2 nor on 2 so I was reduced to 1 3/4. My tsh 3.91 (0.5-5.0) t4 9.7 (9-22) t3 3.1 (2.30-510). I had also been on bioidentical hormones for 2 months but stopped them as too much going on with the thyroid wanted to sort this out furst
What were you taking when those labs were done? Because whatever it was, you were under-medicated. Your FT3 isn't even mid-range, so not surprising you don't feel good.
Have you had your vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested?
I’d been on 2 grains for 2 weeks then seemed to go hyper but I think I caught a virus. I was dropped down to 1 1/2 for 2 weeks now been raised to 1 3/4
Well, that was silly, because on 2 grains you were obviously under-medicated. What do you mean by 'going hyper'?
I had palpitations heat flashes but I realise now it was a virus I thought maybe I’d gone up too quickly as well
Palpitations can be hypo symptoms, as can hot flushes. But the blood test results were telling you you were under-medicated. How quickly did you go up? With NDT, we can increase by a quarter grain every two weeks.
In any case, the problem now will be that you are even more under-medicated, so need to get your dose back up. Have you had the tests I asked about?
How do you take your NDT? Do you take it on an empty stomach and wait one hour before eating or drinking anything other than water? And leave at least two hours before taking any other medications or supplements - some of them four hours?
I was on /1/2 grains for 3 months then went to 2 grains. My vit d is good my b12 was ok 6 months ago. Yes I take it on empty stomach twice a day. Endo wants me on 3 weeks this dose then I can go up again
Hi again that blood test was taken when I had been on 2 grains for 2 weeks then I dropped down to 1 1/2 for 2 weeks should I raise still to 2 grains?
Yes, raise it to 2 grains now. Your endo doesn't really know what he's doing, does he. Is he a diabetes specialist?
No hormones and thyroid specialist supposedly! When would you suggest next blood test? Thanks again for all your help
Just to make sure I explained that right I’d done 2 weeks on 2 grains then 2 weeks on 1 1/2 then I had the blood test
Yes, I understood. But, you were under-medicated on two grains. So, go back to two grains, and in two or three weeks increase by a quarter grain, and see how that makes you feel.
Am I ok raising day 13 I’m not going to wait for my endo as she wanted me to do 3 weeks
