Test results but when to retest vitamin levels?

Hi, I had a Medicheck blood test on Tuesday. Carefully arranged for 9.00, didn’t eat anything other than water - which I used to take my tablets as usual at 7.00!!

Decided to go anyway as I was particularly interested in my vitamin levels.

Results

CRP 0.76 range 0 - 5 Good

Ferritin 105 range 13 - 150 Good

B12 56.5 range 37 - 188 Bit low

Folate 2.6 range 3.89 - 19.45 Too low

Vit D 50 range 50 - 200 Low

Thyroglobulin antibodies 18.1 range 0 - 115

Thyroid peroxydase antibodies <9 range 0 - 34

Having taken 50mcg levothyroxine and 10 mcg liothyronine

TSH 2.32 range 0.27 - 4.2

T3 6.3 range 3.1 - 6.8

T4 12.2 range 12 - 22

Thinking I need to start some vitamins and then I’ll do a proper test without taking medication.

How long should I leave it before retesting?

You need to speak to your GP about these results.

Active B12 below 70 suggests testing for B12 deficiency.

Do you have any signs of B12 deficiency, check here (you need to click on all the + signs) :

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

If you do have any signs then list them and ask GP for further testing.

Folate below 3ug/L is Folate deficiency

cks.nice.org.uk/topics/anae...

Serum folate of less than 7 nanomol/L (3 micrograms/L) is used as a guide to indicate folate deficiency.

Your GP should prescribe folic acid but don't start this before further testing of B12 and B12 injections or supplements started.

Vit Dis borderline insufficient/sufficient. Your GP may prescribe but come back and tell us what he does and if he doesn't prescribe I can tell you what you need to take.

Your FT4 and FT3 results are inaccurate due to you taking your meds before the test but to have such a low FT4 after taking your Levo probably means that it could be under range normally. Your TSH is telling us you are undermedicated and could probably do with an increase in your dose of Levo.

I do have GERDs and some insomnia but no other B12 deficiency symptoms. I’ll talk to my GP and see what they say

Come back and tell us what your GP is going to do.

New young GP saw my annual bloods and has halved my dose of levothyroxine from 100 to 50. He wanted to stop my liothyronine but I argued that only the consultant could do that.

GP should NOT meddle with dose and reduction of 50mcg is ridiculous

Do you have enough Levothyroxine to increase to 75mcg daily

Which brand Levothyroxine are you currently taking

Do you always get same brand Levothyroxine at each prescription

My pharmacist is great and ensures I get the same brand every time. Mercury Pharma for both drugs. Once when he had difficulties with supply he gave me Teva - gave me gastric problems so I let him know and he changed it.

I have surplus tablets so I could increase my dose to 75mcg
