Hi All,

I was taking WP THyroid. ( I was lucky to have bought in bulk before the recall!) I was taking 2 grain. I found a doctor in Dublin who checked my bloods etc. which were good but as I can't get WP Thyroid anymore he has put me on Eltronic 50 (levo) and Thybon henning 20 x 3 times a day. After 3 days I have headaches, swelling in face and hands and this morning I am a little dizzy as well. So I am not sure if I am on too much Thybon ! I guess it takes time but I read you need to go onto Thybon slowly? It appears I am now taking a lot more T3 than on NDT ?

My test results on NDT last month were TSH less than 0.01 free T4 12.6

T3 5.9 TPEX 11.7 T4 77 TGAB 11.9

All mid range except T3 upper range. TGAB was very low,

Thanks for any help !

Should I be on less T3?

Hello Jand ;

In short - yes.

2 grains of WP thyroid would contain trace elements of T1.T2 and calcitonin plus a measure of T3 at around 18 mcg plus a measure of T4 at around 76 mcg:

You have been over prescribed synthetic T3 as your current dose has been increased to 60mcg T3 and a slightly reduced dose of T4 of 50mcg.

I would suggest you stop taking the T3 for a few days to allow this excess to reduce down and out of your system.

I don't know if one can actually compare an NDT dose accurately to synthetic thyroid hormone replacement but this has clearly overloaded your system.

Have you contacted this doctor ?

Hi Pennyannie, I have mailed my new doctor but he only picks up messages every few days. I can't phone him. He works by online consultations, etc. The local doctors don't seem to have the knowledge !

I will adjust down to one dose for now as it should be roughly the same as NDT, unless anyone else has an opinion !

OK then, you may feel a little " odd " for a few days but it will pass- take good care.

I adjusted down yesterday and still woke with a headache! Could it be the eltroxin? Are there other types of levo ?

There are many different makes of levothyroxine.

My document does try to cover Ireland but might not be as comprehensive as for the UK.

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

I have created, and try to maintain, a document containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, around the world.

Thank you so much for that, I suspect it's the Eltroxin

I see you have been " picked up " by very capable hands ;

As to the T3, it does stay in your system for a good few days and so I would guess this is more a symptom of the T3 rather than the T4.

When I took too much T3 in a trial of a T3/T4 combo I was feeling spaced out for around a week, with skin sensitivity even to a bed sheet, and I'd never want to repeat that again.

However not all brands of T4 suit all people, so this might be worth consideration.

I was on Eltroxin years ago and always looked bloated in the face. My doctor has at last come back to my and told me to start on 5mcg of T3 3 times a day and build up to 40. I will try that and if still have the symptoms I will know it's the T4. My pharmacy suspects the T4 to be the problem. I would love Naturethroid to resurface! Armour didn't really agree with me. But hay hoping for a miracle 😀. Thanks for your thoughts 😀
