Shelf life of Thybon Henning Liothyronine.

Apologies fir my earlier post where I asked about Tiromel. I’ve now realised that my current supply is actually Thybon Henning 20mcg Liothyronine. Sorry about that! (Let’s blame it on the return of my hypothyroid symptoms!!!)

I’ve been taking Thybon Henning 20mcg Liothyronine for a couple of years, and it has worked well for me. My current supply has an expiry date of October 2020.

My expectation when I bought it was that I would be able to use it beyond its expiry date, but would need to gradually increase my dose. However, during September it gradually had less and less effect, despite doubling my dose. Over the last week it seems to have had no effect, and hypothyroid symptoms have returned (having been free of these for about 6 years, since adding T3 to T4.)

I am not over-medicated. My resting heart rate has steadily dropped to pre-T3 levels.

Have others found the same with Thybon Henning?

if you have enough of a stockpile to justify the expense you can send some of the tabs to be tested for t3 content. the test will cost between $150-200.

I’ve got loads left, but that expense is way too much. In any case, I’m in the Uk and not sure if testing is available here. Thanks for the suggestion though!

the testing venues are based in EU and the US but they have lots of UK customers.

Recommend getting thyroid levels tested.......being over medicated can cause remarkably similar symptoms to being under medicated

How much T3 were you taking.......how much are you taking now.?

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels last tested

Hello SlowDragon

Which symptoms are most common with over medication that are similar to hypothyroid ones ?

Thanks v much

Are you only taking T3, or levothyroxine plus T3?

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

If/when also on T3, make sure to take last third or quarter of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Is this how you do your tests?

Thanks for all the information, but I’m actually very well informed, and certain that I’m not over-medicated. I also have no concerns about other levels. It’s just the pills that I’m concerned about.

I honestly think you can't tell if the meds are working or not without testing your blood and seeing what the levels are. And just a hunch but if it's the same batch I can't see why the active ingredients would just stop working - they're not that time sensitive I'm sure - more likely your body's needs have changed so you're either under or over megicated.

I tend to agree with JAmanda your body’s need for thyroid hormone changes very easily e.g if you are doing more exercise , if the weather is v hot or v cold or if you’ve had a stressful time. So it’s possible you might need a bit more T3?

But I agree that blood tests are the best way to find out for sure.

Or for an old fashioned test you can measure your left armpit temperature first thing in the morning after waking. If it’s lower then 36.5 then you are likely to be under medicated.

I think it’s unlikely the potency of the T3 is affected. Often times there is more stability on drugs beyond the expiry date.

Take care

I have a batch of ThyBon Henning 20mcg with an expiry date of Oct 2020 also. I tried taking a slight amount extra then within a few dats I believe I became over medicated. But not entirely sure as I’ve not had a blood test. I’ve got my next tests due in a couple of weeks.

I decided to change to another box of T3 with a expiry date of March 2021 and ensure best I can I do take the correct dose for me. So I’m not 100% sure if the Oct 2020 are potent enough or not. But I did get similar symptoms cutting a little too much up with constant headache, tiredness, watery eyes in the evening which is part of what I was having when under medicated too.

My symptoms often are the same under or over medicated. There will be a scientific reason they put expiry dates on as they lose potency in their quality labs, just like food and drink items. As they are reasonable price wise I’m ditching my Oct 2020 box and staying with my March 21 now as now I’m back to feeling good again.

Hope this isn’t too rambling. I’ve just been through this journey last week. The ups and downs of trying to keep our hormones balanced is tricky at time’s. They are very sensitive little buggers! 😀

Thank you, that’s interesting. I can also get many similar effects with too much or too little medication. However, I now have some symptoms that only come when under-medicated, so I’m sure that I need more. You’re right, it is tricky!

I guess the best option would be to get your bloods done while you’re feeling these symptoms. That’ll confirm one way or another. I’m on my March 21 packet now at the right dose for me and today and yesterday I feel back to a good normal thankfully.
