Results okay? Sore eyes/headache

Hi all,

As always I would be very grateful for any thoughts on my results. My dr increased my levo from 75/100mcg alternate days to 100mcg daily at the start of December after I was having awful headaches and body aches - basically feeling like I had flu all the time. By mid December I felt much better and have done ever since. Here are my latest results:

Vitamin D 64 range 75 - 175 nmol/L

Ferritin 57 range 13 - 150 ug/L

Active B12 78.0 range 37.5 - 188 pmol/L

Folate (serum) 22.0 range 8.83 - 60.8 nmol/L

TSH 0.37 range 0.270 - 4.2 mIU/L

Free T3 4.8 range 3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L

Free Thyroxine (FT4) 21.5 range. 12 - 22 pmol/L

Thyroglobulin Antibodies 348.4 range 0 - 115 kU/L

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 136.2 range 0 - 34 kIU/L

Total Thyroxine (T4) 158.00 range 59 - 154 nmol/L

My Vit D was low. I had switched to the Vit D mouth spray with k but had not realised I needed 3 sprays not 1 so now am doing that.

This is the lowest my TSH has been.

I continued feeling well. 5 days after this I had a Covid vaccine which appeared to bring on a thyroid flare (3 days of headaches and aches) but then was better. In the past week I feel a bit more achey and have a headache around my eyes especially. As my Total T4 is a bit above range is there anything I should be aware of here or is this normal side affects to life with Hashimotos?

Thank you everyone

Like many people with Hashimoto’s your conversion of Ft4 to ft3 isn’t good

Ft3 is only 46% through range

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking, apart from vitamin D?

B12 and folate are not brilliant

Are you currently taking any vitamin B complex.

Improving Ferritin by increasing iron rich foods should help improve ferritin levels

Thank you Slow Dragon for taking time to reply. I am taking Thyrestore, CoQ10 (mostly on days when I need a bit more of a pick me up) and I have just started on Biocare Female multinutrient which has a good variety of B vitamins, plus magnesium taurate at night. Because of taking NHS tests and private testing I have been a bit hit and miss with my supplements since late December.

Both Biocare Female multinutrient and Thyrestore contain iodine, and iodine not recommended for anyone with Hashimoto’s

Biocare Female multinutrient

Contains folic acid not folate. Doesn’t contain all B vitamins

Improving low folate

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid) may be beneficial.

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help maintain B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus Super B is good quality and cheap vitamin B complex. Contains folate. Full dose is two tablets per day. Many/most people may only need one tablet per day. Certainly only start on one per day (or even half tablet per day for first couple of weeks)

Or Thorne Basic B is another option that contain folate, but is large capsule

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

Thank you for this helpful detail. Do you think not being optimal with vitamins/folate could be making me feel like this? Does it matter that my T4 is beginning to go out of upper range?

We are all different

Some can cope with high Ft4 others can’t

Personally I feel worse when Ft4 gets too high

The problem was that I increased my dosage because I was feeling like I had flu all the time so if the T4 is too high what do I do? It feels like a catch 22 and I don't know how to improve the conversion.

I'm not sure what's going on for you, but just a heads up to get your reverse T3 tested in case it's too high which could be contributing to your symptoms.

Thank you for replying. Do you know where I can get this tested? I will read through the links.

rT3 (reverse T3) is an expensive test , and won't tell you much . there are many, many causes of high rt3, most are not thyroid related .rT3 is the natural overflow valve for high fT4, and rT3 is naturally got rid of (within hours i think )by being turned into T2 and then T1 and the iodine is then recycled.

Having high rT3 could be caused by too high an amount of fT4 , but you could tell that from an fT4 test , so no really useful reason to do an expensive rT3 test.

You will find a lot of references on line to "rT3 blocking T3 from working" or sometimes talked about as" T3 pooling", but that has since been shown to be not how it works ........rT3 cannot fit onto the T3 receptors inside the cells, so it cannot block the t3 from activating them.

Thanks for replying- my t4 is just above reference range but my dose of Levo was increased in Dec as my symptoms were bad. I’m on a 100 dose

Would you have some links to this rebuttal of rT3 as blocking T3, and T3 pooling, because you're right, it's referenced all over the place like STTM and restartmed, and now I don't know what to believe.

I hope these help , (and don't give you a headache) but they do at least come with pictures , without which i'd never be able to understand any of it.

diogenes has often posted about this canadian site , so i trust it.

Your D is low. Do you take supplements?

Thanks Karen, yes I do but I had changed to the red mouth spray which has the k included which is only 1000 so didn't realise I needed 3 sprays. I am on that now
