I have changed over to Armour NDT from Nature Throid after the last batch was sub optimal and Nature Throid went out of production. I’m feeling very tired, aches, mood swings, tearful, low tolerance to and inability to cope with even minor stresses and my daily energy and functioning has significantly reduced in recent months as has my ability to sleep.
I also haven’t had a period since August but continue to have breast tenderness most of the time and occasional bloating which I usually experience prior to my period.
I’m 45. Diagnosed as ‘sub clinical’ 2016 with a TSH of 6.1. No blood tests for 2 years as I treat by symptoms due to cost of sourcing my own NDT treatment and supplements which make private blood tests difficult, especially now with severely reduced income.
I have been under increased stress in recent months - as have most of us! I also haven’t been as vigilant in supplementing other than vitamin D, K and B12 and occasional fish oil.
I’ve noticed that Armour is a slightly lower dose at 3 grains than Nature Throid. Maybe I need to increase by a quarter of a grain? I’m feeling stuck and exhausted lacking in energy and focus. My drop and fluctuation in mood is becoming distressing and impacting on my quality of life. I would appreciate all advice / suggestions offered. Thank you 🙏

I know Armour puts more fillers in their pills and it's possible the potency might be lower or fillers affect absorption . I tried Np Thyroid this year and the liothyronine was very effective. They had a few recalls but overall it was still reliable and they never took it off the market. Doesn't sound unreasonable to try a little extra.
Thank you for taking the time to reply jrbarnes I’ll increase by a quarter and see how I go. With customs fees, 2.5 months supply of Armour cost me just under £300. I’m not impressed up to now! The fillers may be the reason I’ve been itching recently too. I never made that connection until I read your post. I’ll look into NP. I was originally on WP because it had the least fillers. It worked well until it was reformulated.
Yes Id increase it especially as you reported that its a slightly lower dose. We all react to the differently to the brands of ndts so I wouldnt be too hung up on previous dose on naturethyroid. Do you use temperature and pulse rate first thing in the morning before rising? They used to use this method to help guide them before blood tests came in.
I haven’t taken my temp for over a year. It’s usually just over 35 degrees. I’m Never taken my pulse? What should I look for? I’m increasing by a quarter of a grain today. Thank you for your feedback waveylines
Temperature and pulse was one of the things they use to check before blood tests came a long. With hypothyroidism both lower but normalise once fully treated. My temperature also dropped to 35.4C untreated but now with ndt and b12 is back up to 36.8C. You need to check before getting up in the morning & keep a log.
I also dont do well on ndts with certain fillers. Armour I did well on until they changed the fillers after which I crashed on. We are all different so many people do very well on Armour. My personal favoured one is NP though people are reporting its changed Ive not noticed it affecting me differently even though the taste of the tablets has definately changed......bit yucky tasting now....lol. stopthethyroidmadness condemm NP with people on their reporting its gone bad. I havent found this and have come to the conclusion you have to try them for yourself before condemning brands.
Thank you. I was aware of temperature being a measure before blood tests but not pulse. Can you recommend a reliable thermometer please? I will start my temperature log again. I think that I might be sensitive to the fillers in Armour. I'll persevere for a few weeks and order NP and see how that works out. We all respond so differently to different things, so it's a case of trial and error.
I'm wondering if progesterone cream would help me with breast tenderness, mood and periods? My hormones must be very out of balance to cause my periods to stop.
Thank you so much for your input. I really appreciate it! 😊
