Help with test results please

Please would anyone be able to help me interpret my Medichecks test results?

Ferritin: 118.090 ug/l

Vit B12: 71.800 pmol/l

Vit D: 54.00 nmol/l

TSH: 4.24 mIU/l

Free T3: 4.55 pmol/l

Free Thyroxine: 13.900 pmol/l

Thyroglobulin Antibodies: 17.400 kIU/l

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies: 9.20 kIU/l

My inflammation score was really high as I was in the midst of a bowel flare when I sent the sample. It’s since gone back down to normal (though the GP won’t tell me what it is over the phone #sigh and I’ve not had a chance to go to the surgery yet)

Any insight into these numbers, and advice would be very welcome.

Thank you 🙏

Ah, I though they were standard! Here it is again with the ranges:

Vit B12: 71.800 pmol/l Range - >37.5

Vit D: 54.00 nmol/l Range 50 - 175

TSH: 4.24 mIU/l Range 0.27 - 4.2

Free T3: 4.55 pmol/l Range 3.1 - 6.8

Free Thyroxine: 13.900 pmol/l Range 12 - 22

Thyroglobulin Antibodies: 17.400 kIU/l Range <115

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies: 9.20 kIU/l Range <34

Are you on thyroid meds?

TSH is too high, but if you are not yet on medication, it isn't yet so far out of range that you will get treated - for some strange reason they want you to get really ill before they'll start treating you, which also makes a mockery of having a top end of the lab range, but hey ho. Free T4 is a relatively feeble 19% through range - you will feel much better if this was in the top third of the range; likewise free T3 currently 39% though range. Vit D is very bad too, so if you're not supplementing, you should be particularly after the gorgeous summer we've had...

So if you are on thyroid meds, you very clearly need a dose increase; but if you're not, I'm sorry but the results are bad but not SO bad that your doctor will do anything.

Hope that helps x

Thank you 😊

I’m not on thyroid meds, yet. I’ve had to fight for HRT, looks like I’m going to have another fight on my hands to get treated for this as well.

Antibodies are negative for autoimmune thyroid disease

However....

20% of Hashimoto's patients never have raised antibodies

So it might be worth doing an ultrasound scan

Cost approx £150 privately

I have details of private scan options in London. PM me if interest

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Is this how you did your tests?

Vitamin D is only just above insufficient

Recommend self supplementing to improve to at least around 80nmol and around 100nmol maybe better

Hi, yes I did a fasting test, first thing in the morning ... as early as I could face stabbing myself!

I’m off to the health food store tomorrow to get some Vit D spray (I’ve used it before) and already taking High dose magnesium as it helps with menopause.

So many of the symptoms are attributable to both low thyroid AND menopause; it’s difficult to know which is responsible!

K2 and MK7 are new to me ... I’ll investigate those and hopefully buy some in the store tomorrow.

My folate is low (GP did test that) and gave me a prescription so I’m about to start supplementing that too.

Thanks very much for the advice and tips 😊

Better you make a vitamin D mouth spray that includes vitamin K2mk7

Vitamin D

GP will often only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7

It’s trial and error what dose we need

Calculator for working out dose you may need

40ng/ml = 100nmol

With your Vit D, are you also taking it's important cofactors - magnesium and Vit K2-MK7?

Magnesium best taken in the afternoon or evening, but must be four hours away from levothyroxine

Great pity Medichecks are no longer including folate in test kit

Suggest you retest thyroid and vitamins in another 2-3 months via Thriva or Blue horizon who are currently including folate in test options
