Trial and lots of error

Morning all

I'm still at the trial and error stage. How long generally do you trial a new supplement before either changing doseage, adding additional supplements or stopping completely?

I am perimenopausaland experiencing cramps, weight gain, feeling aged 🙃, anxiety, stress, hair loss.

Most recently in trying to address weight I kick started with a detox. Absolutely no weight loss but compounded no doubt by feeling of totm despite no actual period.

I have posted in here before but consistent take

Zinc

Magnesium

P5P

Selenium

VIT K

VIT D

I was potentially looking at taking Rhodiola or Ashwaghanda to help.

In the meantime I am awaiting some DUTCH Hormone test results so I'm really hoping they will provide some much needed answers as last time my reading showed low progesterone and this is the only thing I haven't tried to supplement yet.

Rhodiola or Ashwaghanda are controversial. Online reports are mixed as to whether they help or hinder.

I am very wary of supplements as it was ingredients in a supplement that tipped my susceptible thyroid over the edge and sent it haywire.

You really need to know what is in them and if you are deficient in what they are supposed to give you. Otherwise I would stay clear.

I've found it possible to lose weight only when my thyroid meds were right - in my case that means low TSH and free T4 and freeT3 nice and high in range. Are your blood results where you need them?

Also I don't think "detoxes" work - your kidneys tend to do what's needed quite happily :)

Did you test your nutrient levels before starting to supplement, particularly Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin?

What were they?

What doses of the supplements are you taking?

How long have you been taking them for?

Rhodiola and Ashwaghanda are adaptogens and said to be balancing; however, it is known that both can lower cortisol so it's best to do a 24 hur saliva adrenal test for cortisol plus DHEA before taking these supplements.
