Testing information

This was some of the info Slowdragon asked for. This is from September 2019. My most current TSH is 3.2. My current vitamin B12 is 1400. This is the most recent test I had for all of the other things. Let me know if this shows anything that could be going on. As I’ve said, I have major bouts with anxiety and depression that I cannot explain. It’s like a switch in my brain is turned on to panic mode and then can switch back to normal mode. Very frustrating! Have had long periods where I haven’t had any problems and then bam it will hit and can last days, weeks, or even months at a time. I assume the high levels of vitamins are from the vitamins I take. I take: vitamin d 5,000 IU, Homocysteine Supreme which I believe is a B12 supplement, orthomega which is fish oil, and Metagenics PhytoMulti 2 a day, and then the antidepressant Fluoxetine 40 mg a day. Then I am currently taking an injection of 200 mg of Testosterone for Low T. Any advice would be appreciated!

The anxiety I had came from undermedication. What the body lacked in thyroid hormones it made up for with adrenalin. So if I was pretty much in a quiet routine I was fine. However anything more demanding meant anxiety. I remember sitting in a bistro having a lovely family meal wondering why I had the jitters.

I have never been on any medication for the thyroid so I’m just trying to see if that could be what I need. I’ve been through the ringer with various drs and antidepressants/anti anxiety meds. Talked to psychologists and saw psychiatrists you name it. None of it ever helped or made sense to be because I have a great life with a great family. Haven’t had any major life issues that would cause a person to have the feelings I sometimes get Thank God. I just know something is not right somewhere!

Know that feeling well. Like a ticking time bomb and until it really goes haywire nobody can tell you what is wrong.

Wolfman10 profile image

I still haven’t found anyone that can tell me what is wrong! All the drs I have had just scratch their head. Like it’s a mystery. I have spent many many days in the last 10 years in total misery.

I had all sorts of tests and then had to wait till I was really hyperthyroid for the reason to become apparent.

I cannot read those results because they are too small but your TSH is too high and should be 1 or lower.

Can you increase them by about 50%? (I am talking about the results picture btw)

Wolfman10 profile image
Wolfman10 in reply toLora7again

I was afraid of that! I will see what I can do with the picture. My TSH January of 2019 was 4.9, then in September 2019 it was 2.5, then June 2020 it was 3.2.

Please also outline what supplements you are/were taking when these tests done

Wolfman10 in reply toSlowDragon

At the time of this particular test this was my regiment:

Supplements:

Vitamin D Klaire Labs- 5,000 IU

Designs for Health Homocysteine Supreme 2 per day

Metagenics Phyto Multi 2 a day

Orthomega Fish Oil 2 per day

Prescription:

Fluoxetine 60 MG

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toWolfman10

Metagenics

metagenics.com/phytomulti

contains

very high B12

High folate

High B6

1000iu vitamin D

And iodine - iodine can badly affect thyroid

And taking this as well

Designs for Health homocysteine

shop.designsforhealth.com/h...

Also contains high B12 and folate and B6

Your taking so much you could be poisoning yourself

Suggest you stop supplements

6000iu vitamin D is far too high a dose as shown by your very high vitamin D

Wolfman10 profile image
Wolfman10 in reply toSlowDragon

Should I do that by first cutting them back? I wonder why the drs have not told me to stop these things?

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toWolfman10

So did your doctor advise you to take all these supplements?

It doesn’t appear that you are taking any supplements with iron in

But your ferritin is very high

What does your doctor say about this

A dr first put me on this about 7 years ago. He had moved to his own practice so he didn’t take my insurance. Well I was fine for about 5 or 6 years then had another bad episode. I then started going to him again last year and paying out of pocket. I spent thousands of dollars on all kinds of tests and he never really was able to tell me anything. He kept me on the supplements knowing the levels were high. Not sure why. Well after a lot of money I decided to go another route with a hormone therapy dr. He first did the testosterone which seems to help and I have also cut my fluoxetine in half. After you suggested that I should quit the vitamins, I have sent him my new dr an email. He is usually very good to get back to me.

I have never supplemented iron.

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toWolfman10

Iron and ferritin are complex

It’s possible to have high ferritin and low iron

SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toWolfman10

Looks like vitamin D is too high (30-100)

Presumably you were supplementing ?

Vitamin D is toxic in excess.

Were you supplementing iron?

Ferritin looks high ...

Wolfman10 in reply toSlowDragon

I have been taking the same vitamins for about 7 years now. All of my vitamins were low back then. I do not have the numbers from back then. No one in the last 10 yrs has mentioned I might have thyroid issues. It was just mentioned by a hormone replacement dr I am no going to.

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toWolfman10

Well taking too much of a vitamin can cause problems

Vitamin D is oil based and you can’t get rid of excess vitamin D.

Assuming vitamin D is ng/ml.

50ng/ml is high and 158ng/ml is ridiculously high

High vitamin D can cause high calcium in blood

Iron is extremely toxic in excess

Too much vitamin B6 can cause issues

Exactly what vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Your TSH seems relatively high, despite being in the “normal” range. Also, (at the risk of adding another supplement to your regimen) are you sure you’re not running low on magnesium and maybe (though less likely based on your T3) zinc?
