Need to stop vitamin D before a vitamin D blood test?

Hello do I need to stop taking my vitamin D supplement before a vitamin D blood test? They are also doing a full blood count, liver function and creatinine. So I know I need to stop B vitamins and iron a week before. Wasn't sure re vitamin D.

i always stop everything a week before, the iron will show up high if u don't stop that, did your doctor prescribe iron for you? I ask because my doctor says 2 weeks for the iron.

I put myself on ferrous fumarate 210mg twice a day as trying to get my ferritin past 65 - to help my thyroid. They are only doing FBC not ferritin so don't know if this makes a difference.

I believe not labtestsonline.org/tests/vi.... But the normal belt-braces is "Ask your healthcare practitioner or lab for specific instructions"

They have always said nothing! Can't rely on them 😄

Too much vitamin D can be harmful so I would recommend that you carry on taking it so that your results give you correct information that you can rely on.

How much do you say is too much? You would need to be taking 50,000iu daily f or 6 months without co factors and a level of over at least 375nmol/L or at least 250ng/mL vitamin d and cofactors are for life or level will drop

How much is too much depends on each individual and on their current lifestyle so I mean taking into account how much time is spent bare-skinned in good sunlight, what colour the skin is, if the diet includes supplemented foods etc etc.

No need to stop vitamin d before testing

Great! Thank you. This is my first vitamin D test in years. I starting supplementing with 3,000 ius daily instead of the 800ius the drs say you need - about 2mths ago - so hoping levels will be ok.

Does it take a while to up levels?

You should see a difference after 2 months specially after that baby's dose!👍

Super! Great timing then!

Is it best just to have water before the test? It's 9am.

Doesn't matter for vitamin d but don't know about the others, however I get annual bloods that include your other tests and never been told just water

This is the video produced by NHS lab in Birmingham which offers Vit D tests direct to the public.

If you go to near the end of the video (2min 30sec) it tells you to continue taking your Vit D but on the day of the test take it after the blood draw, not before.
