Blood Test Results

I have just had my bone profile, bone profile tests returned. The only things that are worrying me a bit are.... serum alkaline phosphatase level 119 (35 - 194), ferritin 56 (13 - 150), T4 14.2 (12 - 22), T3 5.6 (3.1 - 6.8), TSH below 0.01 (endo says its fine as take NDT). I get tired and have weakness and joints stiffness. I have changed from Thiroyd to Thyroid S 2 weeks ago but didn't notice any change in my symptoms. My endo seems to ignore my usual moaning about my stiffness and weak muscles which have disappeared over the years. I used to be very sporty and strong.

Presumably you have had vitamin D tested?

Can you add results and ranges for vitamin D, folate and B12

Ferritin slightly low

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

I haven't had my Vit D, Folate or B12 levels tested. I take B12 methylcobalamin and Vit D 4000iu and I get out in the sunshine. I have been caring for my Mum until she died in Jan this year so I have been very stressed. I take Vit C 1000mg with iron tablet 14mg as my last level was 50 and my doctor said it was ok. My haemoglobin A1c level is 37 (20 - 42). My potassium level is 5.1 (3.5 - 5.1). I have antibodies, my doctor says we all have antibodies but my endo says I have Hashimotos. I do have all these symptoms....

Weakness

Fatigue

Difficulty concentrating

Poor work productivity

Cold hands and feet

Poor short-term memory

Difficulty remembering names

Pounding in the ears

and tinnitus

Shortness of breath

Brittle nails

Restless legs

I get awful cramps at night in my legs if I don't have some salted water. It is the only thing that has stopped them. If I don't have it my legs cramp up as soon as my head touches the pillow. I am also losing my hair but have hair on my face!

I wondered if I have adrenal gland exhaustion and ligament stretch syndrome sa1s3.patientpop.com/assets... . I also have a really old looking face, sagging and lots of wrinkles which are getting worse. I also have a very poor posture leaning forward with forward head. I did have a cortisol blood test last year which was at the high level of normal, I can't remember the exact number. If I bend down I can only bend keeping my legs straight, then my hips pop, they don't hurt but this could because I take turmeric and ginger, boswellia and hyaluronic acid which at least stops my joints from hurting, if I leave it off then they hurt again. I have to use the furniture to then stand up again. I cannot get up off the floor without help or get up from a chair.

Very sorry for your loss

Stress and thyroid are not good partners

When supplementing vitamin D we often need magnesium as well

Low magnesium can cause cramps

Also read up on importance of magnesium and vitamin K2 Mk7 supplements when taking vitamin D

You need to test vitamin D twice year.4000iu is quite high maintenance dose, may be too high

You may need a good quality vitamin B complex rather than just B12

As you have Hashimoto’s are you on strictly gluten free diet or tried it?

I have tried it but find it difficult as our local store doesn't stock gluten free stuff. I will give it another go. I do take magnesium, k2 and B-100. I am on NDT 3.5 grains a day Thyroid S. I am also going through a divorce and having to deal with a narcisstic brother with Mum's estate, his lies and rages oh my.
