Hello, my initial blood test results are in (I'm doing another full test with Medichecks next) - please can you help me work out what they mean? Bit of a novice to all this:
ENDOCRINOLOGY
THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE 0.53 mIU/L 0.27 - 4.2
FREE THYROXINE 16.8 pmol/l 12.0 - 22.0
FREE T3 4.6 pmol/L 3.1 - 6.8
Many thanks in advance

These aren't a disaster, but I'd personally want free T3 and free T4 higher in range (both are less than half-way through range). You've got plenty of space to increase meds a bit if you don't feel tip-top x
Hi fuchsia-pink, I've been taking T3 only at 10mg a day for a couple of months, but still have been feeling tired and poorly some days. I've been a bit better last few weeks since I've tried to sort my diet out a bit more. However, I think I need proper increase in meds to get my free T3 and T4 higher as you say, as from what I've read they are optimal in the top third of the range - also, I cannot lose weight no matter how much I try and think it is down to low T3. I have a telephone consultation with doc on Weds so want to be ready to ask for the right medication now
also, would like my doc to think about me having Levothyroxine now to try to push up my thyroid hormones a bit as I've done all I can to do it naturally re. diet etc so I think I need the medication. Had causing fatigue again a few weeks back so I know my body isn't right and the weight gain I've had just will not budge despite calorie control and exercise
Some of how you are feeling could be down to poor nutrients - so let's see what these say when you get your results... But a bit of levo in the mix could well be a good idea
I think it's near enough impossible to lose weight until your nutrients and medication are optimal. You must be careful not to restrict calories too much - and avoid diet shakes, which contain soy.
thanks, fushia-pink, I don't touch soy anymore so staying clear of all that - will see what doc says about meds on Weds, fingers crossed I get something that makes the difference x
Hi SeasideSusie, I've been on T3 10 mg per day for 3 months now - my last review with consultant said I have high reverse T3 (they didn't check for that this time, but last time it showed up as -27 and I've read you want it below -15 for good health). Consultant said my results were in the lowish range and not optimal, which could be affecting my health/making me tired/weight gain etc. Taking supplements now too - Thyroid Synergy, ashwagandha, omega 3, just started on iron too, magnesium - have been on all these supplements other than the iron for coming up to a year now.
