Thyroid or vitamins causing hair shedding?

Hi

I’m currently experiencing increased hair shedding and have been diagnosed with telogen effluvium and it’s making me very anxious. I have been reading on the forum that the best time for thyroid testing is early morning. The only two thyroid tests I have occurred at 2:30 and the latest one occurred at 5pm. I’m not diagnosed with any medical conditions but was wondering if my thyroid numbers/vitamin numbers are low enough to possibly cause increased hair shedding. Thanks for your help.

Lab from 11/2019 from GP appointment at 2:30pm

TSH 1.6 (.45-4.50)

Free t4: 1.04 (.82-1.77)

Free t3 3.1 (2.0-4.4)

TPO 12 (0-34)

Anti thyroglobulin: not detectable

Iron: 59 (60-159)

TIBC 425 (325-450)

Saturation 14% (20-55)

Vitamin D: 60 (30-100)

Vitamin B12 520 (232-1245)

The dermatologist only tested my TSH at 5pm on 2/2020

TSH 1.7 (.45-4.50)

TSH would have been higher early morning. But, your FT4/3 don't suggest hypo.

On the other hand, your iron is below range - did you not have the ferritin tested? Low iron/ferritin are terrible for hair loss!

Thanks for your reply. No, they didn’t test my ferritin. Do you think my low iron could be the cause of my increased shedding?

Yes, I do. When my ferritin is low, it has a devastating effect on my hair!
