Folate - B12 - VitD all need improving. Raised Ferritin and CRP indicate inflammation somewhere - gut ?

Improving the above should improve thyroid levels.

Brilliant Marz I’ve already started him on the supplements.the raised CRP could be his heart condition so I’ll cut out his gluten and add anti inflammatory foods and hopefully the next set of bloods will improve.

Many thanks I always appreciate you giving your time.

Is he on thyroid meds ?

in reply toMarz

No he was diagnosed ten years ago with a pituatory tumour or lesion they said but has had no follow up care and he is such a well and positive person he refuses to accept he’s anything less than healthy.i have to practically bully him into any kind of tests.its very difficult to m9nitor him but I thought with the heart people looking after him they’d know if anything wasn’t right bu5 since joining and reading here and learning that’s why I’ve pushed him into the full medichecks blood test.

Please don’t supplement B12. You need to know if you have an absorption issue. Just 1 supplement in the last 4 months can skew your results. You may need b12 injections rather than take supplements (I am on injections now). Please read:

Hi suztango thank you for that info it looks like I’ll need to have a total rethink for us both as my mma test came back high and we’ve both been supplementing with b12 and b complex since I had the test done as I thought this was the correct thing to do ,I had the impression that the MMA test confirmed wether or not you had p.a so thought I’d best start supplementing ASAP after I’d sent the MMA test away as it’s 16 day turnaround.what a pickle so it now looks like we will have to wait 4-6 months without supplementing to have the proper testing done for p.a if I’m reading right.

its funny because I’ve felt so much better these last couple of weeks brain not so foggy so more able to digest info. It’s such a muddle isn’t it because we are trying to optimise our levels to improve our thyroid readings but in the process it seems we are not necessarily doing things in the correct order I feel right back at square one now but I guess at least I’m getting more and more info on the process so thank you again.x

You have high MMA so this proves you have B12 deficiency. Have the doctors ever done a serum B12 test before you started supplementing? If so, the MMA plus the B12 should be enough to get you injections.

To get tested for PA (antibodies test), you only need to be off supplements for 2 weeks. Although that test doesn’t necessarily exclude you from having PA - it’s only 50% accurate.

In any case, I’d join a couple of the B12 support groups out there. They can advise more than me.

Afraid that MMA can be elevated for reasons other than B12 deficiency. :-(

But I agree with joining a forum - this one:

One paper mentioned yesterday on that forum might well be worth a read:

Yes MMA can be elevated for other reasons like kidney but it remains a very good indicator of B12 deficiency labtestsonline.org.uk/tests...

Many thanks helvella I’ll have a read x

Yes I had the serum active b12 done by medichecks and it was them who suggested I have the MMA test done then they’ve now suggested further testing for p.a. I stupidly thought once MMA was done I’d have all the info so I started on the b12 and b complex.so anyway thank you again I have gp appointment arranged for two weeks time so it’ll prob be another week for nurse if they decide to do more bloods,I’m hoping not and he’ll use the info I give him as you say and start the treatment.meantime I’ll stop the b supplements thanks so much again for taking the time to advise it’s much appreciated. X
