Hi I started on metavive 2 a week ago I started on 30mg I have now upped it to 60mg split into 2 doses morning and night. I had my bloods done the on Monday before I started the metavive and I've not been taking any med for 2 weeks was previously on levothyroxine 175mcg anyway my results where TSH 150> and T4 5 my doctor wasn't happy but I knew I wanted to start the metavive with nothing else in my body. I have now started with palpitations so could this be because I've not got enough metavive or my body ain't liking the 60mg just yet

Two Metavive ii is only about 1/3 of your levothyroxine dose. If you stopped taking that for a few weeks, it'll take another few (up to now'ish) for you to start converting the T4 in Metavive to T3. Perhaps doubling your dose might make you feel better in a couple of weeks, & consider increasing it to five capsules if you still don't feel well in a month.

Make sure all the other necessary nutrients for conversion are optimal, & consider taking all your dose first thing with some lemon or apple cider vinegar in your water, & well away from any food, drink, or supplements, etc, that might impair absorption.

Am I not right in saying you have to take it slow to increase though as 2vfastbmakes you have palpitations I went from 30mg to 60mg withing 3 days wondering if this has made my palpitations start

It’s usually sensible to increase any medication slowly unless you’ve had medical advice otherwise. The incremental effect of T4 conversion & the two weeks it takes to convert to T3 is important to factor in, as is the effect of the other thyroid hormones in NDT that we don’t get from synthetics. If you stopped your T4 before starting Metavive you may have run out of T3 so you have a dip whilst you catch up, though it could be that your body feels a tad shocked at having some neat T3 & the other hormones all of a sudden.

I’m currently feeling a tiny bit overdone from taking extra couple of Metavive for a week earlier in the month as extra pain meds I was taking seemed to reduce the effects & I started to feel a little hypo. I’m not having palpitations as I dropped my T3 to about 1/8 of a 25mg tablet, just slightly elevated heart rate & greatly increased appetite. I also increased frequency of B12 injections which increases the efficacy of my thyroid hormones so that could be another factor.
