Hello I’ve just read your posts about metavive and thyroid S .

<Edited by Admin>

I was taking thyrogold glandular which was meant to be around 3.25 grains of NDT according to Tammy from thyroid solutions but it is sadly not available and I was doing really well on it . You can read my blood results on my other posts .

I switched to 3 x metavive II a week and half ago and I feel good but I’m not sure if to add another metavive I next week as the information I found said increase by a metavive I every 2 weeks and monitor heart rate body temps etc. My basal temp has gone up by 0.4 c which is good

It’s a shame there’s not more information

Hi Blackpanther46

Thank you so much for your reply. I was on 3 thyroid S a day but forgot at least once or twice every week so I gather i was around 2.4 /2.75 a day but to be fair i felt slightly over medicated so when i started on metavive I first mixed 2 thyroid S and one metavive II but it was too much, so decided to take one Metavive II and one thyroid S which I did for around 10 days then as I had a blood test appt I thought I better switch completely to Metavive for 2 weeks and see my results but I took for 2 weeks 1 Metavive I and one Metavive II had my blood test with the results you can see on my post link, by then I was feeling really undermedicated so since the 10 of December just after my blood test I started to take 2 Metavive II a day I feel better now but probably still slightly undermedicated feeling cold and tired around 5pm and having to add fiber to my diet to keep regular.

Now to be fair i am not sure if I should add another Metavive I now or wait another 2 weeks for the extra medication to build up? I also want to use a test kit to get my results privately after I settle on a dose for a month or so.

Someone else told me they replace 3 thyroid S with 2 Metavive II but then everyone is different my heart rate was getting really low with 1.5 Metavive at around 63 when waking up and is now around 65 it was always 67/70 with Thyroid S also i put on a couple of pounds since i stopped Thyroid S but it is the festive period so, food chocolates and a little alcohol are not helping. 😆

Weight has become an issue since Hypothyroidism until my late 40s I never had weight problems even after my children, i had gone back fairly quickly to my normal self but suddenly before being diagnosed I put on 4 stones in 6 months i eventually lost them 7 years later after one year of 600 cal diet and one hour a day of aerobic type exercise at home however there is always now a tendency to put it back. I think there are 2 elements to it not only the slower metabolism but also the tiredness and depression going with hypothyroidism makes you crave sugar and carbs.

I am interested in your experience with Thyro-Gold as I did considered it but they were in short supply and did not want to try something for a few months then to have to stop because of availability. When you say you were on Thyrogold equal 3.25 grains was that the 150 mg or the 300 mg one? Also Thyrogold is Bovine glandular never used Bovine before but I would use it no problem just do not want to keep switching also the advantage of Metavive is the availability in the UK you have it within 2/3 days. I have wet AMD and taking vitamins supplements the patented one coming from the U.S which is another cost and complication for me.

You see Metavive II is 30 mg dried gland plus the nucleotides recently added so to reach 150 mg one would need to take 5 Metavive II <edited by Admin>

I think all of us using this forum should try to post their experience on Metavive to help others that why I decided to do it.

Sorry about the long post take care and keep safe.

Starsw xx

My husband has been taking Thai NDT for a few years, either Thyroid S or the discontinued Thiroyd.

A few months ago, he added some of my Tiromel (T3) to the NDT because he's never really returned to good health, despite blood test results never showing any problem with conversion. He titrated up to 25 mcg T3, which was added to his long term dose of three tablets, 180 mg, of Thyroid S (roughly three grains). He quickly began to feel much better, with more physical stamina and improved mood.

Then the Thai NDT ran out, and our only readily available option was Metavive. I couldn't find any useful information on the forum about equivalent dosages, and this kind of discussion tends to be shut down in any case, because Metavive doesn't have any declared hormone content. <edited by Admin>

That said, my husband has done badly on it, and is now at the point where he may not feel well enough to return to work in January. He started on four Metavive II capsules plus his 25 mcg T3, but felt much worse within a week. After two weeks on this dose he increased to five M'vive II + 25 mcg T3. No improvement. He's about to go up to six capsules of M'vive to tide him over until the arrival in the post of some Thyroid S, donated by a very kind friend who no longer needs it.

When he finishes the Thyroid S, we'll have to find the funds to buy Armour instead, though we're hoping the other US brands will be back in production by then.

Hi Hillwoman thank you for sharing.I posted a rather long post in reply to Blackpanther46 on the same thread if you have time to read it. Sorry about your husband difficulties. I just wanted to mention that i feel there is a time of adaptation needed when switching between NDT and glandular with one Metavive II and one Metavive I, I felt pretty unwell after around 10 days awful headaches mainly and feeling undermedicated however after those 10 first days on Metavive only the headaches subsided, now on 2 Metavive II I feel better been on this dose for 17 days now but believe I will have to increase with one Metavive I (so 2.5 Metavive) then may be to 3 Metavive II.

I feel there are fluctuations in how I feel. Possibly taking my dose with a gulp of water and not having anything else for one hour even tea or coffee seems to make a difference been careful to do that the last 3 mornings and I felt better (used Thyroid S for 5 years I never bother too much while on Thyroid S would take it early but often with tea or coffee).

I would say tell your husband to give it time at a lower dose and test T3. If he increases too much too quickly he may be unwell because of too much T3 or T4 circulating in his blood while this may block the cells absorption i remember reading somewhere that too much circulating T3 (active Hormones) may results in the destruction of it resulting in reverse T3. How is his heart rate and temperature?

Also just before I switched I was feeling pretty unwell pain in my thyroid and generally poorly which continue for around 3 weeks and I believe this to have been an antibodies attack or liver/kidney issues. I used dandelion tea and some liquorice powder for 2 weeks (i know my adrenals gland are a bit sluggish) and I felt better. Maybe your husband is unwell because of inflammation or sluggish adrenal glands. Just having a few liquorice allsorts a day for a week and dandelion tea or nettle tea may help. Let me know how things are going thank you for sharing your experience it is so important to do so at a time where Hypothyroid patients are ignored.

Also your husband should have his Vitamin D level tested when my vitamin D level was very low I thought it was my Thyroid dosage I was feeling awful and I was well below the minimum acceptable .

Take care keep safe.

Starsw.

Thanks Starw. We've considered these points along the way and checked everythng that can be checked. All his vital signs are showing a metabolic decline after several months on Metavive, so he can't afford to stay on it any longer. The only other time I've seen him so unwell was when a viral infection laid him low for several months about 25 years ago.

I also normally take 2.5 grains of Thyroid S, plus 4 x Metavive 1 per day. Run out of Thyroid S so on advice of my naturopath I now take 2 Metavive Pro and 1 Metavive II. To buy Metavive pro you need authorisation from a practioner eg nutrionist/naturopath. < edited by Admin > I am doing fine on this dose of Metavive, don't see any difference to Thyroid S. Everybody's different though. Hope thats helpful

Thank you yes very helpful, sorry for not replying sooner I am taking now 2 Metavive II and 1 Metavive I per day just increased the dose as 2 Metavive II was making me feel undermedicated after a couple of weeks I feel ok with that at the moment but i have just done the increase if it is not enough i should feel it in around 10 days, so will increase again. I used to take 2.5 Thyroid S so would expect to have to take between 3 to 5 Metavive II a day you take what would be 5 Metavive II a day but everyone is different so will keep posting to share my experience. Keep safe.

I want to correct my last message, I was wrong. I went from 3 thyroid S (180mg or 3 grains) and 1/2 cynomel T3 to 2 metavive II <edited by Admin>. My weight stabilised lightly, but I must absolutely not eat carbs or I gain like hell. So I don't think my dosage is well balanced enough. I wait to do blood test FT3 and FT4 next week before to adjust. good luck to everyone.

Hi yes thank you. I am now on 2 Metavive II and One Metavive I a day just increased by 1 Metavive I as 2 Metavive II were not enough going to wait a couple of weeks and increase again if I feel undermedicated as after an increase I always feel better for around 10 days....Never tried T3 after 11 years levo and many issues I went straight to Thyroid S which help me enormously now switching to Metavive for an alternative. After 2 weeks I may Increase again and take 3 Metavive II a day when I feel good on a regular dose for a month I plan to check through private blood test.. . it is a long process hopefully i will be able to find out what the best dose for me and will keep posting to help those looking for answers we are all different but others experiences are helpful and open new perspectives... Keep safe.

Ok I thought I would post this new thing happening now... last 2 days as I could not wake up early enough to take my Metavive with water only and wait for an hour to have my tea quite milky and sweet..lol... I have taken my Metavive with my tea and strangely enough I felt better for it I seem to have read somewhere that NDT and Glandular may be more effective taken with drink or food can someone help me with this and direct me to other posts or site about it. Thanks. 🙂
