A functional doctor my daughter is seeing has prescribed her Metavive, which he says is an NDT manufactured in the UK. She does not feel any different after taking them for months, and has not lost any weight. I think she would be better taking an NDT like the one I take, used to be WP, but with the shortage, I now take NP. Is anyone else taking Metavive? Any thoughts on it please?

Hi. I started taking metavive 5 weeks ago as a private functional dr told me that I don’t convert T4 to T3 very well. He mentioned that most GPs/ endos don’t really understand the complexities of the thyroid and said that this was an easy way to take T4/ T3 and that he takes it himself. I started on 1/ day and increased by 1 every 2 weeks. I felt no different until today. Today i’m feeling jittery in my legs. I’ll monitor and see. My Dr said once I feel better in myself that I should then get tested again. He also said it takes around 6 months normally to find the right level.

Metavive is not NDT, it is a glandular, made from pig's or bovine thyroid glands, and has undisclosed amounts of T4 and T3 so you can't be certain exactly what you are getting, although some people do well on it. I hope by it being "prescribed" the price hasn't been hiked because it's easy enough to buy it yourself.

I don't understand the difference. I thought NDT was made from pig's thyroid glands. What's the difference? Thanks.

Shiny

NDT made with fixed amounts of T4 and T3. As Metavive is the whole gland the amount of each hormone can vary so it's not possible to know how much there is.

In my experience Metavive works just as well as the other NDTs I've tried. I like it better than most.

It is not real NDT, (it would be prescription only if it was), but is a thyroid glandular. As it is a supplement, not a med, it can't claim to contain any hormone at all, although anecdotally it probably does. However it is much less strong than NDT. I'd suggest changing to a real NDT from Thailand, which will also probably be cheaper.

Recently I actually saw a claim about a New Zealand product and my surprise was the wide range of thyroid hormone content they appeared to allow.

I'm taking Metavive and doing well on it. I'd been taking NDT (first Armour, then naturethroid, then Thyroid-S) for years but then it seemed to stop working. My naturopath suggested substituting Metavive for one NDT to start with - it made me hyper: he said it's because the Metavive is more bioavailable and clearly it's more effective for me. I now take one in the morning and a third of one three times a day and am so much better than I was. But it's the professional one I'm taking so is stronger. The contents/quantities are available if you ask, and I've seen them posted on here, but they are not published as Big Pharma would soon stop it if they knew it wasn't just the supplement it says it is. It's brilliant that we can get it in the UK, and know that it comes from well-bred pigs, long may it last, so shhhhh!

Hi I'm interested in your reply. I've been on nature thyroid for over a year but due to the new formulation it's not working and my tsh has gone up. What strength Metavive are you taking? I've got some Metavive 15mg. I assume one tablet is equal to approx quater of a grain of ndt (65mg)? I would appreciate your help as I'm feeling quite unwell. Thanks

I would suggest you just increase the dose slowly until you find what's right for you, I'm not sure how well it translates from NDT as it's more bioavailable. If you can get to see (or Skype) Roderick Lane I would really recommend as he's helped me to sort it all out. As we're all different I can't say that what's worked for me would work for you.

Hi can anyone advise me possibly please

(Apologies if post is old as I've gone into French for some bazaar reason and can't tell how old post is lol)

I'm now on metavive 1 as a bad converter

I take two a day both A.m

I feel no better and probably not as well as I did on levo 75 although that wasn't great, anxiety depression worst prob

I don't know how to increase? Do I get metavive 11 or take more of metavive one. I'm one of these odd bods who struggle taking tabs so any thoughts most welcome please,

Also, have any of you seen better blood results re t3 out of interest, after taking it?

Thanks 🦋
