Hi everyone,

I’ve posted before about my symptoms and have been investigated for autoimmune disease after having a positive lupus anticoagulant blood test. Nothing specifically has been diagnosed, but I am on hydroxychloroquine as my rheumatologist feels I do have autoimmune illness.

An MRI on my neck recently picked up a multinodular goitre which I am being referred to an ENT specialist about. It has reawakened my suspicions about my thyroid, I have many thyroid type symptoms but of course my thyroid blood tests have always come back ‘normal’.

Can you lovely experts have a look over my results from the last couple of years to see whether I should pursue this or not?

I have also been iron deficient anaemic and vitamin D deficient in the past but they are now corrected (last time they were checked anyway).

Apr 18; TSH: 2.8 (0.2-4.2)

Jun 18; TSH: 2.2 (0.2-4.2)

FT3: 5.73 (3.1-6.8)

FT4: 16.7 (12-22)

Total thyroxine: 123.0 (66-181)

Thyroglob ABs: 85.4 (<115)

Thyr Peroxidase ABs: 9.86 (<34)

Feb 19; TSH: 2.27 (0.27-4.2)

FT4: 14.0. (12-22)

Somewhere along the way I had a TSH result of 3.2 but I can’t find the printout for that one. I assume they’ll test my bloods again soon in light of the goitre, but it will probably just be TSH again, as is the GP’s wont. Is it worth getting a full thyroid check again via medichecks?

Thanks in advance!

Yes recommend getting full Thyroid and vitamin testing

vitamin D, folate. B12 and ferritin retested

Make sure to get blood test done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water to give highest TSH

I have a multinodular goitre and it causes me to be either underactive or overactive. Your TSH is too high and should be around 1 or less for example mine is 0.70 at the moment and I feel fine. I have Graves' Disease which is an autoimmune disease. You can read my story on my profile page. The TSH actually isn't a good indication of thyroid function but the NHS have decided it is ...

Thankyou- I had two positive LA 7 weeks apart, but came back negative after 12 weeks, hence no diagnosis of APS. I’ve been on hydroxy for about 9 months now and it doesn’t seem to be doing much for my symptoms.

No I’m not gluten free at the moment- I really should give it a go.

Be careful of hydroxychloroquine. It is known to cause problems with the macular, which is the part of the eye which gives central vision. Ensure you have at least yearly eye tests. Bottom line, it can cause central vision loss. If you're not seeing any benefit from taking hydroxychloroquine, it would be worth a discussion with your rheumatologist about whether you should come off it. If you need hydroxychloroquine, it's worth the risks to the macular.

There is a really good website about "Five Thyroid Patterns That Won't Show Up on Standard Lab Tests."

It is very informative.
