PMS and NDT

Hi. I have been on naturethroid for 3 months increasing gradually. I am now on 3 grains and tbh, I don't feel much difference. I am a little bit better mood wise, but that could be the vit D and K2 and B complex I'm taking. However, one thing has changed, my periods are all over the place! Has anyone experienced this? What does it mean? I'm going to try going back to levo and add synthetic t3 as if I have to increase my NDT it would just be too expensive. Thank you for any insights.

How about progesterone? I found it to be extremely helpful. They have found that the adrenals will steal progesterone possibly to make cortisol and may cause a shortage. You also need cholesterol which supports sex hormone production.

You should not need more than 3 grains of NDT.

Sorry, but how can you say with certainty that she should not need more than 3 grains of NDT...?

Many people do need and take more, just like some people need 100 mcg of T3 or more daily.

3 grains of NDT may be close to what a euthyroid person produces daily (taking into account T4 to T3 conversion = ca 100 mcg of T4 and 30 mcg of T3), but that does not mean nobody needs more than 3 grains. My doctor has patients on 10 grains of NDT daily. Sure, that would be indicative of some kind of thyroid hormone resistance or malabsorption, but they still need that much.

You are right and that's why I said "should" rather than could. I've been reading articles for twenty years and three different sources say this. I think this may have been derived by testing healthy subjects. We have to do more than just take more and more hormone is my point. We have to get to the underlying issues and root causes.

I know what you mean; over the years, many doctors have told me that "nobody needs more than 100 mcg of levo daily", and I ended up needing 200 mcg daily just to feel even remotely human...so I agree with everything you say!

Can you post your recent blood results? TSH, T4 & T3 and antibodies, vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Ferritin and Folate.

I'm afraid I haven't had one since August, before I started on NDT. I live in Ireland and the cost of online private blood taste for full thyroid panel are very expensive. (Up to €180 with vits etc...) So I can only do one every 6 months especially with xmas coming. I have 3 kids...

I pay about £90 but sometimes Medichecks have special offers.

You need to get full Thyroid testing...TSH, FT4 and FT3

Remember to stop taking your B complex a week before blood test as biotin can falsely affect test results

Last dose of NDT 8-12 hours prior to blood test

I live in the U.S. and Nature Throid hasn't worked for people for a couple of years now. It's changed. I used to be on it and felt great. Look up the Stop the Thyroid Madness website to learn about this.
