Hi. I'm just wondering how people on NDT have managed their treatment whilst in hospital. I am probably going to have to be in hospital and I am not going to take thyroxine instead of Thyroid S as thyroxine causes me all sorts of problems especially with my heart. How have people got on in hospital when no-one knows what NDT is?

NDT and hospital
I think people would usually put their pills/capsules in something watertight, then put the container into their toilet bag.
I know from experience that even prescribed medication acquired with prescription from a GP, taken to hospital, and handed over to the nurses might never be seen again. I would never take more with me than I anticipated needing. If you have a partner or friend or someone else you trust who will come and see you every day you could possibly give them a few more to dish out if needed.
I just put mine in my bag with toiletries. My husband had to dish them out at visiting time as I was only able to use my left hand. I said nothing and no one asked. All my prescription items they took to dispense. They totally messed up times of everything else so I didn’t get excited about ndt times for a few days.
Hope all goes well
I just said this is my thyroid replacement I take' as I'm unable to tolerate thyroxine. Can't really argue with that one!
Thank you for your replies. I think I will state that I am unable to take thyroxine and see what their reaction is. The last time I tried 25mcg of thyroxine it sent me to A & E with a heart rate of 200bpm and it wouldn't slow down despite deep breathing, lying down, etc. I had to have meds to slow it down and have been on beta-blockers ever since. I do not want to go through that again. I will give them my meds for them to give to me but also keep some in my bag in case they get lost.
