I'm on Nature Throid , 1 grain x 3 a day- bought from a UK pharmacy- Have done well on it for 2 years now - However, I am getting hair loss, still upper arm weakness ( maybe as bad as when on levothyroixine, severe muscle pain in upper arms, with noticeable puffiness, there. Also, I get a bit starey into space - which I find hard to snap out of even when driving lately & PM. slump ? I've just stopped taking Pregnenalone (as I read it can cause hair loss & also, Selenium as I read that can also cause hair loss) I'd appreciate some help please?

medichecks say: Doctor's Overview

Thank you for providing your medical history and monitoring your health with medichecks.

I understand you are taking this test to review your thyroid function on nature throid and following an AIP lifestyle. I note you are still

experiencing symptoms which include weakness and hair loss.

Your thyroid stimulating is low whilst your free thyroxine and T3 are normal. This suggests that your thyroid dose may be too high. As

this is not in keeping with your symptoms, I advise discussing this result with your doctor who can advise on the appropriate dose.

Having very low levels of thyroid stimulating hormone for several years has been associated with the development of osteoporosis. I

recommend discussing your risk with your GP as you may benefit from a bone density scan to monitor for the development of

osteoporosis.

Your CRP level has improved but it is still high. This may indicate increased inflammation and/or infection within the body. If you are

experiencing pain, fever or other symptoms that suggest infection or inflammation then I recommend that you discuss this further with

your GP. If you are otherwise well, I advise discussing this with your GP as this type of CRP can also indicate future risk of

cardiovascular disease, therefore you may want to review your other risk factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol, diet and

exercise levels.

Your iron, folate, vitamin B12 and vitamin D levels are healthy.

I hope you have found this information helpful.

I'm not sure of the ideal levels of ferritin and folate, but they could perhaps be higher.

The low TSH means very little if anything, as it may suggest your pituitary isn't responding normally to the need for more TSH. My TSH was 0.01 on one test, with quite high T3 nd T4, and I still had hypo symptoms! Your T3 and T4 are within range and could even perhaps go a bit higher. It all depends on your individual "Metabolic set point", the narrow range where you personally feel well.

It is quite possible you actually need an increase in replacement hormone, not a decrease as the low TSH seems to indicate. Our bodies change over time

Do you have any previous test results you can post, from when you were OK on present dose? That might give a clue to what is going on.

One way to show if you are overmedicated is to stretch both hands straight in front of you, fingers spread, and see if there is a slight trembling. If there isn't you are not overmedicated.

However, I have mostly learned the above from this forum, and could have got something wrong, so hopefully others will respond soon
