Not quite sure where to start to be honest. My last bloods ( private- Blue Horizon Thyroid 15) were December 2018. I was taking NatureThroid (3.5 grains) The only reading that was near the top of the scale was ferritin ( 149ug/L with the range being 13-150) In July 2018 I developed pain in my right hip. I saw an orthopaedic specialist through our health insurance. He did X rays which he was surprised to find showed nothing out of the ordinary. He was expecting to see a hip that urgently needed replacing with the symptoms I was showing. Did an MRI and again, not much to see other than a small pocket of inflammation. We agreed I should go away, monitor it, try and keep on an anti inflammatory diet- I was already gluten free and took turmeric daily. It did improve slightly. Then for some reason I stopped taking my multi vit & Vit D. I don’t know why and I can’t believe I did but hey ho. In April this year I had a fall from my horse and hurt my left hip and now they are both very painful and I am gutted that I can no longer ride my horse as it’s too painful to even get on! I have an appointment with a different GP than usual as my original one has retired. This is on 30th July. I made it in order to check that the surgery are still happy to do my blood draws as I have another Thyroid 15 kit. Is it worth asking for a referral to the orthopaedic guy again or is this something that is probably Thyroid related? I recently changed from NatureThroid to NDT from Thailand as I learned from one of the Facebook groups that it was no longer NDT. I’m sorry to sound so garbled and idiotic but I think this illness makes you a bit prone to it sometimes. Feel a fool to be honest but the thought of not being able to ride again depresses me as it is my life. I’d be grateful for any advice- and probably a telling off. I am back on Vit D and taking Devils claw tablets too but not really working. 😩😩

Hip pain

What is no-longer NDT? Nature Throid? What is it, then? What else could it be? Honestly, most of these Facebook thyroid groups ought to be shut down. Some of the rubbish you read on them.
It is now synthetic T4 and T3 combined. I checked on the label. I was quite annoyed to be honest as nothing was said about it. They’re almost duping folk especially with the name of the product!
It actually says 'synthetic'?
I've had a quick google, and can't find any information on that. On the Nature Throid site it still says it is pure and natural.
The label on my latest batch reads-
Thyroid U.S.P ...... 1.5gr. (96.5mg)
Liothyronine (T3)........13.5mcg
Levothyroxine (T4)......57mcg
Calcium.......25mcg
Magnesium, Sodium (each)....less than 1mg
My understanding is that both Liothyronine and Levothyroxine are synthetic.
I would say their website is out of date and very misleading.
Liothyronine is T3 and Levothyroxine is T4 whether they're synthetic or naturel, I think you'll find.
Liothyronine sodium is synthetic T3; Levothyroxine sodium is synthetic T4.
But the bottles of Nature Throid have always said that. It doesn’t make it synthetic, it’s just to tell you the equivalent dosage contained in each tablet. It’s still Natural Dessicated Thyroid, derived from pork thyroid.
Which part of the hip ? The joint pain is usually deep in the groin and the knobbly bit we can feel at the very outside top of our leg is the Trochanter. In this area there are many little fluid sacs called a bursa - they enable muscles and tendons to glide over the trochanter. These can become inflamed and this is then Greater Trochanter Bursitis. Osmo Patches worked wonders for me - website of the same name !
Hope you soon feel better ... the pain was awful in my case for over three years - but then I have Crohns too so inflammation can wander
Thanks Marz. The pain is mostly in the top and front of my thighs. Will have a look for the Osmo patches.
You pop them on at night and inflammation drawn out by osmosis - hence the name ! All natural too ! Worth a read at least ...
