Hip/leg pain

I have no thyroid since 2003, this was an issue in 2011 when I went to wee Dr Peatfield, he prescribed Nutri Adrenal Extra and the pain left me. I didn't realise I was under stress, but clearly the last 3 years has had an affect on all of us.

Wondering if there is anyone else out there with bad leg pain and sometimes unable to walk or have a proper night sleep, and what you did? It seems to radiate from hip to knee on the right hand side, however when it first appeared in 2011 in was in my left leg.

I suppose I shouldn't complain I have had 11 good years, but really puzzled why it is back again.

Hi Margo - sorry to read about your hip pain. I suffer with Trochanter Bursitis from time to time - stemming from lumbar stenosis - I think 😮‍💨 I use Osmo Patches to draw out the inflammation which helps. I buy on-line. Also specific gentle exercises to strengthen the glutes and quads. I need to do them more often ! Little seems to be a cure in my case but every little helps.

Hope you feel better soon. 🌻

Thank you so much Marz for your prompt reply. I was diagnosed with Trochanter Bursitis in 2011 and had steroid injections given to me in the G.P. surgery also under general anaesthetic in hospital to no avail. According to my X-rays, areas of my spine were "crumbling". I went to see somebody recommended to me in Nottinghill who looked at my X-rays and said I didn't have bursitis/crumbling spine. He manipulated my leg at a few sessions. Strange things happened that week, I saw this lovely chap in Nottinghill of whom I had 3 sessions with and the following day after the 3rd appointment I had my first appointment with lovely Dr Peatfield. I started immediately on Nutri Adrenal Extra and within days the pain had gone never to return for 13 years, I always puzzled over what was it that did the trick, maybe a bit of both, or was it the Nutri Adrenal Extra........ Now I am further down the road and the folk I saw back then have either retired or passed on, and I am now an old biddy myself, it is like starting again trying to find who and what can help me. So disappointed Nutri Adrenal Extra is not available any more, do you know why? Anyhow I am definitely going to give Thorne Adrenal Complex a go. I already use their B vitamins and believe they help me. I will definitely take a look at Osmo Patches this morning. Am also working on my diet to cut out inflammation. I still manage to do toga, hopefully that will help too.

Thanks again.

This is very interesting to me. I had a diagnosis of bursitis in my hip too. Then was told ‘some deterioration in lower back’. You know what, I don’t believe a blooming word now. I can hardly believe I have been told such twaddle. Mine is almost certainly muscular. Physio definitely helped but very briefly. It’s one of my very main complaints. My sister in law gets this pain in much the same place as me but hers comes and goes. She has not had it for a while after getting some physio. She says losing weight is what has improved it. Unfortunately weight loss made no difference for me. Sorry about going on about it but it really has made me disabled and I would like to get rid. I did notice briefly when I had a go at T3, the whole area was more flexible and stronger but I have made a mess of that at the moment but I will get back to it. I would love to know what this Nutrition Adrenal Extra is/or the equivalent. I have had the problem for many years along with my undiagnosed hypothyroidism. I have resisted adrenal stuff as I am having a difficult enough time, getting my head around all things hypothyroid. I will definitely be watching this space to see how you get on. Please report to the forum once you have had a chance to benefit from the Thorne Adrenal Complex!?!

I am sorry you too have been in pain and discomfort, this is probably a very common malaise.

I know how hard it is when you are poorly to try and get your head around all things thyroid, it took me years. I found reading Dr Barry Durrant Peatfield's book extremely helpful and straightforward to comprehend. Maybe you could start there?

Yes I agree you probably have been told a load of old twaddle, it seems to be a standard reply "bursitis/back deterioration", it's easy to say and maybe difficult to disprove.

I think maybe getting on the correct dose for your thyroid, and reading advice from this forum will help you.

Yes, as soon as I start on the Adrenal support I will report back my progress.

I am feeling very optimistic, I have had some very good advice from everyone on this site. I feel that's half the battle, it's when you don't know what's going on you can feel pretty lost and miserable.

Sorry to hear of your leg pain Margo . I am having pain in back and mostly left leg also. Sometimes it migrates to right leg, and think it is to do with lumbar stenosis, plus vertebrae problems. I had an X-ray two weeks ago, but have not received results yet. Do not think results will get much attention from hospital though. I will seek out your Osmo Patches Marz . Meanwhile I'll carry on with back exercises that I have been doing for past 30 years! I hope you find an answer to your pain Margo .

nightingale-56, Have you tried using a back stretcher? Like this slumbar.co.uk/products/the-...

nightingale-56 profile image
nightingale-56 in reply toRedApple

No, RedApple I have not used a back stretcher, as the two vertebrae that have slipped are a forward slip and this would push them further forward. Thanks for the suggestion though. I intend to go back to physio, with the chap who has been treating me and keeping me mobile for the past 30 years just as soon as I have the X-ray results.

I have recently invested in a Near Infra Red Lamp ! A Black Friday purchase ! Bought for my eyes but also using on my back. Hoping to keep the inflammation down along with pain. So far so good.

When I have an off day with my gut - my back also flares 😮‍💨

Margo in reply toMarz

That's interesting Marz, I have been looking at one of those too, but not sure of a good make. If you have time could you give me a link on where you purchased yours please? Infra red is also good for your skin/keeping wrinkles at bay...apparently. I have purchased a kind of infra red glasses I bought for my eyes as I have had x 4 trips to A&E for suspected retinal detachment, which turned out to be not complete detachment (can't remember the name).

Do hope the Near Infra Red Lamp works for you @Marz. Do let us have feed-back on it. In what way does it help eyes. Over past 3 years I have had quick-onset glaucoma and just recently my right eye needs monitoring because of fluid build-up. Do hope you can keep the inflammation down.

Sorry you too are having eye problems.

There are free consultations available and guides to download.

My understanding is that it works at a cellular level.

It might be worth trying to increase your magnesium/ minerals to relax the area and ensure good bowel movement. I personally use ReMag and ReMyte (Botanicahealth) this is a concentrated liquid format with no fillers. Ive also been known to use a “bed of nails” before sleeping.

I discovered this by default when experiencing hip/ sacro-iliac and groin excruciating stabbing pain. In desperation I slathered the area with Magnesium gel before bed and was aware of a deep clunk as something shifted in the joint and I am now thankfully past the gut wrenching pain stage, sleeping and able to turn . Bliss.

Wobenzyme is useful to speed up the reduction from inflammation. Ive got this from a German Apotheke.

I’m considering a castor oil pack kit as my next piece of kit in the tool box. Though haven’t tried that as yet apparently castor oil has great skin penetration and I might add some frankincense oil drops - organic of course! (note I’m not a licensed aromatherapy expert). However I thought the castor oil might help decrease inflammation upstream in the liver area.

I hope some of this information helps a fellow weary traveller…find a decent nights pain free sleep……

This is what I love about this site. So much amazing helpful information.

You have mentioned here products I have never heard of, and am definitely going to check them out. I imagine the painful problem I have at the moment is pretty common. Yes I have already upped my magnesium and also having Epsom Salt baths with essential lavender oil. I am feeling so much better in my head that there are many remedies I can try which is half the battle. Last week I was so full of pain and very cheesed off and couldn't see any light.

Thank you so much for sharing what helped you, I am hoping I will turn this thing around very soon, and help others.

I have had similar problems with pain in my left hip for almost a year, which varied, but would radiate down to my upper left leg. Walking and sleeping at one stage was quite painful. I was diagnosed with gluteal tendinopathy by the physio, and given information on what NOT to do, ie things that trigger or worsen the pain, eg exercise that brought on the pain, sleeping on my left side, crossing my left leg over my right leg. I wasn’t given exercises to do. Heat with a warm hot water bottle on that hip helped a bit. However, what dramatically improved it was a raised dose of Levothyroxine. I definitely think it’s associated with thyroxine levels. A session with a physio should give you a diagnosis, whatever it is, and then you can take appropriate measures. After my experience , I’d also check that your thyroid medication is adequate.

Interesting because that was one of my thoughts. I thought I was really doing well taking 1 x grain of NDT when before on a different brand I took 2 grains and felt fine, at least. no fatigue. This is about 6 months on the new NDT and. my hearing is appalling even with hearing aids, and of course the leg pain. I have just upped my dose, and am taking 2 grains every other day and will see where that takes me as well. I suspect I will end up taking 2 grains daily again. All of that said, I think taking Adrenal support at the moment might be a good thing, and upping my magnesium, and Epsom salts baths.. Thank you so much for your input and hope you have sorted yourself out completely.
