After having my synthoid dose lowered from 125 to 100mcg last Sept (even though I told the doctor I feel great) I have had ongoing mental symptoms including depression, anxiety, restlessness and insomnia. I returned to my previous dose in January but the symptoms remained.
I tried a T3/T4 for a week about a month ago and it was like throwing fuel on a fire and I was thrown into a horrific week of full blown major depression. I was bed ridden. I reverted back to synthoid. The depression eased to what it was before I tried incorporating T3.
I also had constipation and then gut issues. My food stopped moving through my stomach and caused all sorts of issues. I started apple cider vinegar and changed my diet according to Aviva Romm and Kelly Brogan. I am 3 weeks into an elimination diet.
The mental symptoms are debilitating. I'm a grade one teacher and I've been home on short term disability for a month now. My daughter gets married in a couple of months. My husband has been on holiday but goes back to working away from home on Wed.
Here are my latest test results. Would appreciate ANY insights!
TSH 1.14 (0.4-5.5)
fT3 3.8 (3-7)
fT4 21 (9-22)
rT3 17 (8-25)
Ferritin 18 (13-150)
Magnesium 0.84 (0.65-1.05)
25-Hydroxyvitamin D 52 (75-200)
B12 317 (156-698)
Sex hormone BG 85.7 (10-125)
Thanks in advance. 🙏🏼

Your results show you are under medicated and poor converter
FT3 is right at bottom of range
Improving vitamins should help improve conversion
Ferritin is extremely low. Ask for full iron panel to check for Anaemia
Eating liver or liver pate once a week, plus other iron rich foods like black pudding, prawns, spinach, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily vitamin C can help improve iron absorption
Usually in USA it's measured in ng/ml....but this range looks like nmol
No folate test - common not tontest this in USA
B12 on the low side. Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial, helping keep all B vitamins in balance
B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast
Recommended brands on here are Igennus Super B complex. (Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks ).
Or Jarrow B-right is popular choice, but is large capsule
If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results
Thanks for your reply. Vitamin D is nmol/L. I discovered that I am getting too much biotin and folic acid in my multi vitamin after reading your post. I am not supplementing with selenium but I have some I could be taking. I am taking 300mcg iron with Vitamin C that the doctor prescribed after getting my results. I did ask for the TpO antibody test.. wasn't done. 🙄 I have been back on 125mcg since Jan (except for the trial of T3/T4 4 weeks ago).
It's not that you may be getting too much biotin.....it's that biotin is used in many blood test assays, so remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results
We never recommend taking any multivitamins. Most contain iodine, not recommended if you have Hashimoto's
Best to take separate vitamin B complex, one that contains folate rather than folic acid.
Unusual in a USA to measure vitamin D in nmol
Vitamin D is too low.
GP will only prescribe to bring vitamin D up to 50nmol. Aiming to improve vitamin D by self supplementing to at least 80nmol and around 100nmol may be better .
Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.
I'm in Canada which might explain the measurement difference. Taking Vit D liquid drops will up the dosage. I was tested for antibodies last year with a negative result but maybe that's changed? Thanks for the articles!
