Hello! I am new here so hope I have posted in the correct place.
About 5 years ago I saw an eye wateringly expensive Functional Nutritionist who suggested I take 1 x Metavive Pro (60mg of Porcine). That has worked well alongside Vit b12 and other supplemments for a while.
Fast forward to last week. I went to see a private GP as I'm 49 and had perimenopausal symptoms including hair loss, extreme fatigue and more. He did some bloodwork and my Vit d was low, progesterone non-existent. Oestrogen high.
In any case my thyroid results came back as showing my free thyroxine (11.5) is too low and TSH is not raised (0.88).
He suggested that I could simply increase my Metavive Pro dose to alleviate this or he could prescribe something.
Before I go back to my eye wateringly expensive nutritionist who will probably ask me to do a set of new tests, I wonder if any of you lovely people have thoughts or suggestions about what I might do next.
Many thanks in advance. Emma

I suppose he didn't test the FT3, which is the most important one when taking this kind of product? If you're taking something containing T3, then your FT4 is going to be low, so that's not a criteria to dose by. But, how do you feel? Do you feel you need and increase in thyroid hormones? If so, raise your metavive and see how you feel.

If you post your results with their reference ranges we can interpret them and comment. As you are taking Metavive you should have FT3 tested as well as TSH and FT4, do you also have this result?
I'm puzzled about "TSH is not raised". Is your doctor saying it should be raised? When optimally dosed on thyroid replacement hormone, most people feel best when TSH is 1 or below. Metavive is said to be like NDT in that it is a thyroid glandular (although it doesn't state any hormone content) and this would lower TSH and also lower FT4, it's the FT3 result that is important.
What's happening about your low Vit D and your progesterone/oestrogen levels?
For a full picture to understand exactly where you're at you need the following
TSH
FT4
FT3
Thyroid antibodies
Vit D
B12
Folate
Ferritin
If you can post results/ranges (plus units of measurement for Vit D and B12) we can comment. If they've not all be done you can get them done in one test bundle with one of ThyroidUK's recommended labs. Probably the best value at the moment is Medichecks Thyroid Check ULTRAVIT medichecks.com/thyroid-func... You can use code TUK20 for 20% discount until the end of May, thereafter THYROIDUK for a 10% discount on any test not on special offer.
You could also join Thyroid Care Group on Facebook and seek the advice of Naturapath Roderick Lane - google his name. He is very good and shares a free protocol to members of the group that may help you along with your thyroid supplement. Following his protocol may be all you need ! It definitely works as I feel much better.
