Problems with Metavive - Any alternative?

I've been on Metavive II for the last 2 years and it's really helped with me.

In the last few months I have noticed my blood sugars (I'm type 1 diabetic) running high for no reason.

I thought my dose might be too high so I tapered down the dose but my blood sugars still are out of control. (it's normally well controlled!)

I notice that Metavive changed their formula a few months ago and added Ribonucleotides. I've also heard that this can cause problems for people with autoimmune issues.

Has anyone else experienced problems with ribonucleotides.

Are there any alternatives to Metavive?

Thanks!

Have you had any blood tests recently to see where your levels are?

If the Metavive is converting to a high level of FT3 then this could contribute to high blood sugars.

High levels of FT3 is associated with high levels of blood sugar.

T3 also raises blood sugar.

Dr Bernstein (Diabetes Solution)- a Type 1 diabetic who also has hypothyroidism has written about.

Hi, thanks for the response. I had these thyroid bloods taken recently. I will have a look at Dr Bernstein's work. But the timing with Metavive and Adrenavives formula change does seem very coincidental.

I tried a few days of stopping both Metavive and Adrenavive and I felt much better (and my bloods were stable) but then Hypothyroid symptoms kicked in again

my TSH is so suppressed because I've been taking Metavive for a long time. I was told by Dr Myhill that this was normal as I was taking the Metavive when I had those bloods taken

Your FT3 is right at the top of the range.

When was your last dose of Metavive before the test was taken and what time did you do the blood test?

I took some 22 hours before I took the blood sample at 10am on the day of the test.

If my T3 is high but I still get bad hypothyroid symptoms if I stop taking Metavive, what can I do?

I've tried lowering the dose but my blood sugars are still too high and I am getting the hypothyroid symptoms

How long have you lowered the dose for and how much did you lower it by?

You say your taking Adrenavive - did you do a saliva test for cortisol?

I lowered the dose for 4 or 5 days. Yes I have done a 4 point saliva test as well as temperature testing and adrenavive has massively helped. I still think the formula change to both Metavive and Adrenavive plays a part in my issue

If, as you say, both are raising your blood sugar then you will need to find alternatives to both Adrenavive and Metavive as both contain riboneucleotides.

yes I might make a separate post asking what the best alternatives are. You could be right and my slightly high T3 could be the problem but I will try an alternative first thanks for taking the time to reply

Please forgive me but I'm afraid I don't know what riboneucleotides are and how they might affect us? I am Hashimotos and I also take Adrenavive and Metavive .Thank-you

That is half the problem! We do not know details of which riboneucleotides are added, nor how they might affect us.

You could do a bit of searching, maybe find the Wiki page, read the article and still not understand much more. :-(

I’ve been taking metavive and adrenavive for about 4 years and getting on very well until nucleotides were added. I’m now phasing them out in favour of Nxgen beef thyroid, which I’ve been taking for a few weeks. It’s early days to say what’s happening with my thyroid hormones but the palpitations have stopped and i feel calmer. I ordered my second tub on Friday and will complete it (unless I start feeling too different in a bad way) before I test my levels. I will say my weight increased very slightly when starting these and this is something I’m watching very carefully

The next two on my list to try are

Nutriest

Ancestral

I’m waiting for replies from both of them regarding a couple of questions. They all seem quality products made in the same/very similar way to metavive and apart from Nutriest (their cattle is Estonian) use New Zealand beef, freeze dried with no added this or that. None of the above do a porcine version yet, which may be a problem for some as beef glandulars - as I understand - have less T3. It’s not a huge difference - again, as I understand it - but a difference nevertheless

Finding an adrenal alternative may be more problematic as I can take only the cortex; the whole gland seems too much for me. SeasideSusie gave me the name of a brand she used whose name I’ve forgotten but will look it up and post

I've been taking Metavive II for about 6 months and I'm OK but I have recently been diagnosed as diabetic type2 so am concerned about this as well. My last tests show I am much lower down the range on FT3 and FT4 than you are with FT3 higher in range than FT4 and my TSH is down from 10 to just over 2. I don't have an easy road to getting treatment from the NHS for thyroid - diabetes they are happy to treat with lots of clinics and tests - but if it was likely to suceed I would ask for some levothyroxine, reduce the Metavive and try a combo. Is this something you have tried - taking at last some levothyroxine?

You can control your diabetes by your diet, high protein, low carb, reasonable fats. Look up Dr. Unwin-he has just reversed 100 cases of diabetes through diet!

Thanks. I'm already doing that but I am concerned that Metavive may work in the opposite direction.

Hi there, after years of success on Metavive, I too are having similar issues. A lot of people are experiencing this but having spoken to the company, they have no plans to return to the previous formula. ApparentlyThe new additions are to support better absorption but with Hashimoto’s it just doesn’t work. I have changed to ‘Thyroid Natural Glanduar’ 40mg capsules by The Allergy Research Group via the website I herb, which were recommended. It’s early days and the capsules size mean I will either slightly over or under what I was originally taking with Metavive, but already my heart palpitations have stopped and I am sleeping again. I have been doing my basal temperature again when I first wake and my temperature is now back up to within normal range and my cold extremities are no more which is great. A very good book is ‘Your thyroid and how to keep healthy’ by Barry Durrent-Peatfield. Good luck!
