Magnesium

Many people find this is easiest before breakfast. Levothyroxine interacts with minerals such as iron, calcium, and magnesium, which lower the activity of thyroid medicine. Many antacids contain magnesium and aluminum, so avoid taking them when you're on the thyroid supplement levothyroxine.

Levothyroxine and Supplements|Thyroid ...

Hi

Help please

I googled the above. Confused as says not to take with levothyroxine. Please confirm as have just bought some that you dissolve in water and take at night.

Thanks.

Many of us can’t afford not to take Magnesium, iron, calcium etc while also taking our daily thyroid hormones, but get into good practice of not taking them within 4 hours of our thyroid hormones. So if you take your Mg at bedtime, then don’t take your levothyroxin etc till say 4 am, or later.

I take my magnesium (chelated or bisglycinate) on an empty stomach with water at bedtime. I know it's working because I don't have cramp. :) I take my THs any time after 4-5am to allow a five hour gap, though I leave four hours after this for any other supplements & usually don't eat until 11.

Some people take Mg citrate with meals as it's a gut irritant which helps reduce constipation, though the boavailability of thos form's not so good. I'm not sure what Mg oxide is good for, but used as a cheap filler.

Is it possible to do it the other way around?

Take magnesium etc in the morning, and your levothyroxine at nite.

I take my levo around 10pm,as this avoids any interactions... I try to eat at the latest by 5pm.

Plus I've read levo is absorbed better at nite, when our metabolism slows down.

But what about interactions with T3? I take mine in 4 doses through the day, so take magnesium and minerals at bedtime.

Magnesium is best taken a couple of hours before bedtime as it can help you sleep. I take my Levo in the morning. Occasionally take an extra magnesium if I have tired legs in the morning.

Bad hare, please check out a company called mad diet for affordable magnesium with zero excipients. I have been taking them for over a year and have found them to make a big difference.

Will pop the web page on, hopefully that is ok to do?

Thanks for responding. I take levo in a morning. Try to leave at least 30 to 60 min before drinking although not always possible when rushing out to work.

These are dissolvable and take at night. So they don't have a chance to interact with levo.

I take menopace and vit D at teatime. It helps with hot sweats.

I am also looking at taking selenium I read this is supposed to help with absorbing levo.

Yes, selenium helps the conversion between T4 to T3. I would definitely recommend. Just check the ingredients when buying any supplements. Some contain things such as talc.

I also take the mad diet b vitamins and i have to say, I can tell when I forget. In fact I take all of her supplements as they are all nasty filler free.

Although be careful with selenium if you have low platelets as they can make the problem worse!

"Her" B100 product contains, in addition to the vitamins:

choline bitartrate (not a B vitamin but sometimes regarded as "similar")

inositol

PABA - para-aminobenzoic acid

silicon dioxide

microcrystalline cellulose

hydroxypropylmethylcellulose.

Some people would consider at least some of those ingredients "nasty".

Not what you're looking for?
