Is anyone supplementing their levothyroxine with vitamins and supplements - I was taking selenium, vit d, vit b6 vit b12 and have now added magnesium, vit k and l tyrosene
I have a blood test in a week so I will be interested to see if they have any affect as my last bloods at the start of Jan were awful see attached - my TSH was 64.3 - I take 75mg of levothyroxine but my Gp refused to increase it until I had another blood test as I had stopped taking the Levo for 4 weeks in dec as the brand I was taking made me ill
I have only just started on l tyrosene - has anyone had good results - more energy etc

If the brand of Levothyroxine didn't suit you, pharmacist or GP should have changed to previous brand immediately
Was it Teva?
GP was correct not to increase dose. Hopefully your results will be much improved after 6-8 weeks on CONSTANT dose of Levothyroxine
Always stick to same brand. Always check the bag before leaving the pharmacy
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Do not take Levothyroxine dose in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take immediately after blood draw. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Remember to stop any supplements that contain biotin a week before testing as biotin can falsely affect test results
What exactly do you mean by 'supplementing their levothyroxine with vitamins and supplements'? Do you mean 'make it work better'? Or 'make the thyroid produce more of its own hormone'? What exactly do you thing tyrosine is going to do for you?
Tyrosine is just one of the ingredients of thyroid hormone. So, you can't make T4 with just tyrosine, any more than you can make a cake with just an egg. And, I doubt that you are hypo due to tyrosine deficiency. In fact, you're not. You're hypo due to having Hashi's, and your immune system slowly destroying your thyroid.
There are certain rules to supplementing, the first being that you should only take what you need. Like B12 - I imagine your B12 was lower than that when you started. But, why the B6? Your folate is low, why aren't you supplementing that? It's usual when taking B12, to also take a B complex, with all the Bs, because they all work together. So, seems to me you'd be better off swopping the B6 for a B complex with methylfolate, to bring up your folate, and balance the Bs.
But, while your thyroid hormones are so low, I doubt anything will give you more energy. You are severely hypothyroid. Energy should come with raising your FT3.
Yes, all sorts of claims are made for supplements, but things only really 'work' if you need them - more is not better. What you need for energy is a higher level of FT3, and nothing is going to give you energy until that rises.
Four weeks at 75 mcg is still going to leave her with low FT3. That's hardly going to raise it high enough to make a difference to energy levels. And taking tyrosine is not going to alter that.
