Just to clarify, you don't "take" topical magnesium; topical use means applied to a certain area, for instance on the skin.

Many of us use Better You's vit D spray, whether on its own with vit K Mk7 separately, or in a combination vitD/vitK spray.

I use

Better You vitamin D spray

Separate vitamin K2 Mk7- brand "healthy origins" do good one. Nice small tablet (recommended to me by Seasidesusie)

Calm vitality magnesium powder is cheap and easy to use (must be four hours away from Levo) Best to start on low dose as too much can cause diarrhoea

Better You make several magnesium sprays or creams. Epsom salt bath option too

Lots of people already suggesting but I’m also a big fan of BetterYou.

I use the D3 + K2 mouth spray. Nice and easy that you get one of the cofactors without having to take something separate and it has a pleasant mint flavour. More easily absorbed as well which is important if you have hashimotos.

Also like the magnesium oil spray for sensitive skin. It absorbs very easily but does leave a slightly tacky residue. If you don’t mind that, it’s great.

Otherwise I’ve also used the BetterYou magnesium bath flakes. Nice for a change and very good if you’re feeling a bit achey :)

Ah yes, collecting all the supplements. I’m just about to test for Vit D for the first time since starting so hoping to have had a little bump in my levels!

One thing I didn’t realise until recently was that it can cause bone pain whilst your bones remineralise - apparently if you’re deficient or have been insufficient for some time, it’s a necessary process which happens once you start supplementing vitamin D. Watch out for that!

Yes i did read this... How bad has it been??? Good luck with yr vitd...id love to know how the results go

hjh88 profile image
hjh88 in reply toSpotydave

I’ve found it’s mostly been manageable but I have had a few nights where it’s kept me awake. Tiger balm, some ibuprofen and an electric heat pad have all helped - plus telling myself that it’s my body healing itself! To that end, I’m willing to put up with it.

I’ve no doubt I’ll be posting my results when they come through in Jan 👌

Hope it all goes well. Id love to kniw how u get on... I will have to keep this in mind when i start taking vit d...has the pain stopped now? If so how long did it last??

in reply toSpotydave

I did notice my pain was slightly worse when I started my D supplements. My D was well below the range and was started on 50,000 units by mouth weekly this past April. (I'm still on this). But my regular aches and pains were so bad I wanted them gone!

I felt slightly more discomfort for the first 2 weeks but honestly before the D was started I had such severe daily muscle, bone, and joint pain I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I didn't believe this and 4 weeks after taking my weekly megadose all my general body pain was and still is gone.

Try it. Getting to 'no pain' is something I never expected and was so easy.

I now also take 3000 units of D3 a day along with 180 mcg (2- 90 mcg gelcaps) of K2-MK7 by Jarrow (US brand). Hopefully when my D levels become optimum I can stop the megadose but if I need it I'll continue. I don't want that long term chronic generalized pain back.

So good to hear you sorted the pain. Its amazing to think all you needed was vit d... Fantastic irini 😀

in reply tohjh88

I had a bit of discomfort too, on starting D3. thought maybe I was taking too high a dose! It seems to have gone now, but I was rather concerned at the time.

Thank you

Yes i think i would be concerned aswell... Atleast now i know what to look out for.. cheers

in reply tohjh88

So it soaks in through the skin?

hjh88 profile image
hjh88 in reply to

Yeah it does. I’ve read elsewhere on here that magnesium in particular is very well absorbed through the feet so the bath flakes can be used as a foot soak to the same effect. Makes a nice change not to have to take another tablet as well!

The vitamin D is absorbed sublingually (under the tongue) or through the cheeks. Apparently it’s absorbed more efficiently his way and there’s no need to worry about taking it with the fattiest meal of the day - which I believe you have to for best absorption of a tablet.

in reply tohjh88

I also soak my feet in a magnesium bath. I am stuck taking showers as my knees make getting in and out of the tub difficult. (Iwould kill for one of those walk-in tubs). My cardiologist told me about the feet soak,

It can be difficult for some to absorb magnesium through our G. I tract and many of us are deficient.Very common. So I take magnesium taurate or glycinate orally, use magnesium oil, soak my feet and hope for the best.

in reply tohjh88

I use the bath flakes to makemy own magnesium oil. A BIG jar cost me $20.00and is lasting forever. I mix equal parts flakes with distilled water, keep an 8 oz glass spray bottlein the shower and the resi of the batch in the fridge.

Usually mix a cup of each together per batch.

This is such a good tip! Thanks for this 😊

in reply tohjh88

your welcome.I gotmy recipe from a website called wellnessmama.com I have nothing to do with it but I have gotten good health tips there over time. The recipe has variations re adding aromatic oils for fancier oil but I like the basic recipe.

Plain Epsom salts also work for this.

And so cheap. Supplements can add up.

I've been using Vit D gel pills also Vit K2 gels. They are separate. But as I read this post, a light bulb went off.

Why not switch to the spray? This takes away the added daily problem of keeping D, and K2 at least 4 hours away from my early morning thyroid meds.

Not a problem in the morning but I take T3 twice a day and I don't always stick to the same eating times every day.

Sometimes I'm a little slow.

Thanks for bringing the subject up.

Hi irina cheers ..... ive got for the spray ...due to possible absorbtion problem ( anemia)

in reply toSpotydave

Good idea. I have absorption problems too. Take B12 injections and keep ferritin level upwith weekly liver. Ugh but it works. Already use magnesium spray.

Revital revital.co.uk sells the best brand vitamins - and there is an online sale of 20% off. I have used a Nutri 4000iu tablet for years and my level is fine.

Revital does have combination sprays in the sale - just do not know the strength.

I do not work for Revital - just a very satisfied customer.

Hi, I’ve used the Better You Vitamin D spray for a long time, recently I used theit Vit D and K2 spray but I’m now trying out NutraZing vitamin K2 & D3 + Magnesium. They come in a small capsule form and seem good.

I also like to bathe in Better You magnesium flakes and I have a tub of rub on 75% magnesium cream which is quite nice and not too greasy, I’ve also got a tube of their 100% magnesium gel but it stings and it is also a bit sticky. I’ve tried the little sprays in the past but I found that the nozzles would eventually clog up and I wasted the liquid inside. Besides I like to soak in a bath.

Spotydave profile image
Spotydave in reply toFruitandnutcase

Thats great... Its great to see everyones ideas and preferred products that work for them 😀...why does it sting???

Fruitandnutcase profile image
Fruitandnutcase in reply toSpotydave

I haven’t a clue, I only find the sprays sting and the 100% Better You gel. The magnesium bath flakes are fine as is the 75% body cream. If you stick with it you get used to it though and dont notice it so much.

Spotydave in reply toFruitandnutcase

Sounds good to me 😀

in reply toFruitandnutcase

The spray bottles I use are dark blue glass sold on amazon. I buy the 8 ox size and I have one smaller one to fill if I'm gone overnight. The spray mechanism is white. They clean easily and I've never had a problem with clogging.

I forgot about all the uses of Borax. Never thought about adding it. Borax has been around forever. It used to be advertised as "20-mule team borax".

Thanks for the memories!
