Has anyone got sick with a hashimoto's or Thyriod flare up after being on Nexium?
Was going good on thyroxine and had to go on Nexium due to erosion. Erosion gone but now I'm sick again with what feels like thyriod inflamed etc.

One hospital did try me on Nexium and I was doubled up in agony. Horrible stuff. I've been on Ranitidine now for more years than I care to remember with no ill effects. Touch wood.
Nexium is a PPI

If you have Hashimoto's are you on strictly gluten free diet?
According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist
approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps, sometimes significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)
Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies
Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first

I take vitamin d and this is at 79 also my iron is at 70. Haven't had a test for the other 2. I have been tested for coeliac and this came back negative. I take executive b tablet every morning. Maybe have to wait for my vitamin levels to come back up? Do you know how long this could take?
So as 80% with Hashimoto's benefit from strictly gluten free diet, that's your next step. Only 5% are coeliac
The only way to know is to actually try it for 3-6 months minimum. If it helps stick with it. If no noticeable improvement, test antibodies (TPO often drop a lot when GF) then reintroduce gluten and see if symptoms get worse
Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is good as avoids poor gut function.
As you supplement vitamin D, you may also benefit from magnesium

The Nexium could be reducing your absorption of your thyroid meds.
I agree. This probably very likely.
So many things can adversely affect how well we absorb our thyroid meds.
I thought I was on top of this subject but just a few days ago I read a post that mentioned even drinking our coffee too soon after meds can affect absorption.
Prior to this I didn't think coffee was also something to worry about. Sometimes, wanting to wake up and get my morning 'jolt' I would drink coffee 15 or 20 minutes after thyroid meds.
No more.
